How bundled up do you have your LO at night?

Hi fellow mommies,

So I live in So Cal and it's ALWAYS hot here and at night I usually just have Lily in a onesie swaddled with a thin blanket. And if I have the AC on (which I usually do) I throw another blanket over her. Is that too much? How bundled do you have your baby at night? And what temp should the house be to suit a newborn? Sorry for the many questions. TIA! Smile

Re: How bundled up do you have your LO at night?

  • I live in MN and our house drops down to 67 degrees at night. I put LO in a fleece sleeper or fleece onesie for the night and then he sleeps under a relatively thick blanket, which we tuck underneath him to keep it from scooting up near his face. It seems to keep him warm enough!
  • We're in Michigan, so weather is much different! We have lo in a shortsleeve onesie, sleeper, thin swaddle then all that in a sleep sack. Not to mention the blanket we cover him up in as he sleeps in the glider! Usually we have our house set to 68. But we up'ped it to 72 for lo. I was told by fellow bumpies that you can leave it at whatever you normally would and lo will adjust.

  • I'm up in northern ca, outside sac, it's been so nice and warm here and we have a two story house I have been dressing DS in a onesie or light cotton sleeper and swaddle him in a light flannel blanket. He doesn't seem cold when he wakes up and last night he slept over 9 hours.

  • I also live in Michigan and our DS seems to be pretty warm naturally - our house gets to about 67or 68 at night too.  He wears a short sleeve onsie a cotton sleeper and a fleece swaddler.  He usually sleeps for three to four hours straight.
  • I live in washington state and during the summer it gets REALLY hot and when it's winter it gets REALLY cold. right now we are having mixed weather but i keep my baby fully dressed with a onsie, pants and socks, sometimes mittens, then swaddle him up. I keep a small heater in the room thats on auto at 70-72 degrees. He seems to like it that way.
  • I just make her a little warmer than I need to be.

It's warmed up here quite a bit so she's in a sleeper with a sleepsack.

  • I was told to put one more layer on the baby than you are comfortable in. So if you are good in your clothes and a blanket, add another layer to LO.
  • It was 73 degrees in Philly yesterday, 66 degrees at night.  We had the windows open for some air.  DD wore a sleeper and a cotton sleepsack.  She seemed fine.

  • Our house is about 67-68 at  night. Lo is a long sleeve onsie, a sleep sack (sometimes fleece sometimes not, depends on how cold it is outside), a fleece blanket and a receiving blanket on top of that. She always moves the blanket down so her arms/hands are free.
