2nd Trimester

Just a question about "early" delivery.. and I got my birthing video!!

So, I've been noticing quite a few people recently who have had their babies a few weeks early (which I know is usually fine and safe). I was just wondering, what are the chances of having your *first* baby early? I was always under the impression that your first was, in most cases, a little late if anything. If you had your first DS or DD early, did you have pregnancy complications or did your "typical" pregnancy just end with an early baby by suprise? I'm not worried about it, as long as the baby is okay, I'm just wondering.

Also, I ordered a birthing class DVD because DF and I can't make it to classes. It came yesterday and I am SOOOO excited (also a little scared) to watch it, but I'm trying to wait for DF so we can watch it together this weekend. It's called "Laugh and Learn About Childbirth"..I'll let you guys know how it is.

  • Did you mean to post this on a different board?
  • My first was nearly 3 weeks early but I also had pre-term labor, and a few other complications. My friends was early, and she didn't have any problems. I think the late theory is really just OWT.

  • My first was early because my water broke. My sister however has had all three of her children late. 10 days, 5 days and I am not sure about the third.
  • I had a very normal pregnancy until my water broke early.  It is called PPROM (preterm premature rupture of membrane).  It is not common, no warning and there is no reason for it.  They guess I might have had an infection in there.  This time I have a higher risk of having an even more preterm rupture.  Obviously I am not the norm.

  • DS was born at 38 1/2 weeks, which is technically full term (anything after 37 weeks is).  I had a perfectly normal pregnancy, and went into labor on my own.
Connor Thomas 6/6/08. Discovered missed miscarriage at 17 wks 3 days, D&C 11/25/09. Please, please, please - BFP 5/21/11, EDD 2/1/11. Beta@12DPO=52, Beta@14DPO=158. U/S 7/7/11 shows strong baby measuring a couple days ahead!!! Pregnancy Ticker
  • DS was nearly 2 weeks early...no complications, he was just ready and that's when my water broke. He was on the large side, 9lbs 3 oz and I ended up having to have a c-section instead of the natural birth I wanted...what they say about best laid plans is so true!
  • I got pre-e so I had my first baby induced a week early!
  • My pregnancy with DD was completely normal and she just decided it was time at 38 weeks 2 days.  For what it's worth, I carried her super low the entire time and at 36 weeks my OB did an ultrasound and she was already engaged with her head so low they couldn't see her face.  This baby so far is very low as well so it makes me wonder if I'll make it to EDD this time either.
