Breastfeeding

When to start pumping?

I am so confused as when I should start this. Advice and your experience.

Re: When to start pumping?

  • Whenever you want! Just don't go crazy in the early days because you can end up with too much milk really fast :)  Maybe give it a shot once a day or every other day during your LO's longest nap of the day or something and go from there...
  • I started when LO was 4 weeks old, I pumped once a day in the morning until she was 6 weeks old then I started pumping 3 x a day. Although if I don't pump 3 x a day now, I end up in pain! Even with her feeding so beware!

  • It's such a personal thing... I pumped after every feed for the first 3 weeks to build my supply.

Now I only pump once a day, when DD is STTN.

  • This info was very useful. Im due in 4 1/2 weeks and i plan on breast feeding. I have to go back to work after 6 weeks and i want to build up a decent milk supply. So now i think ill hopefully pump a couple days after i get home just so ill have a hefty amount stored up.
