I think most of us just keep it on the boards- I'd start off with a poll to choose a name for your group and get someone tech savvy to then make you a personalized badge. Hopefully someone will volunteer to do your weekly check-ins b/c it's always nice to see how everyone else is doing that is close to your due date.

You usually just keep everything on the boards. If you want to be in charge, then you could go ahead and get a list for check ins. but of course you wont decide a group name until the end of october early november, so all the june moms can have a say and vote on the name.
I organized the April group, if you go into 2nd tri February did an awesome job with google groups or spreadsheets or something and I just could never do something like that but it is really neat! I keep it on the board only, use a excel spreadsheet to keep track and update every Mon, wed & Friday. Its really crazy for the first month but then once you get the bulk of the girls (April has over 500) it gets easier. To start just do your first check in, for wording just look at the other check ins and base it off of it, its what I did and what I think most months do. We waited until the beginning of September to get a name so we had the most April girls active.
If you do check in's post when the group name will be figured out in the post to avoid having a million people ask when the name is going to be picked. That way you don't have a ton of people creating a group name.
i just ended up posting one day... one girl mentioned doing it but then she didn't post anything so I took it upon myself to do it. No one ever said "I Wanted to do that" so I would just do it tomorrow morning.
