Please go to the article and comment. Please help us tell the bump gods that we're not weird and that the article title should be changed.

Liz said it best

"They never do clarify what is considered "weird" and what is "awesome" in their article. I guess I'm just not happy seeing an adjective like "weird" next to fertility treatment slapped on their main page. To me, the article's title encourages this idea that some fertility treatments are weird. I feel like it encourages your average fertile bumpie to think of infertility treatments are a part of a sideshow or something. It's already a taboo topic as it is among most fertile people, yet it's the norm for sooooo many couples.

I try to be an advocate for speaking up for IF and I promote embryo adoption whenever I can. It's hard enough as it is trying to explain to your average fertile person that building a family using donor embryo/egg/sperm isn't weird, it's actually a beautiful option for those of us who didn't get selected for the traditional path to parenthood. They didn't call out donor issues as weird, but they don't clarify so it's left for the reader to decide, right? I didn't like seeing "weird" next to the word fertility treatment on the main page where lots of bumpies go"

Thanks crew.

ZOMG! looks like they did! YAY bump! A goodly portion of the article is poorly written and misuses information about PGS testing, for example.

    "Selecting baby?s looks
In a stroke of Brave New World science, you can also expect to see more extensive tests of embryos. In the past couple of years, doctors have developed methods of testing for all of an embryo?s chromosomes simply by removing a few of its cells. It?s likely we?ll start to see more parents choose not only gender but also eye and hair color."

If anyone feels strongly about it, please do comment.

    Thanks.

  • Yeah, it looks like they decided to change the title.

But WTF does "selecting baby's looks" have to do with IF??? Testing embryos for genetic abnormalities =/= selecting hair color. Sometimes I really hate TB.

  • Well the fires have been lit by several ladies as it should be.  The article is truly fluff with no real research done on what an IF journey is and what it is like.  Seriously to even suggest that chromosome abnormalities can be selected or de-selected is utterly ridiculous.
TTC: 8/2011; Me: 38, DOR; DH: 34, no issue "Super Sperm"; Conceived au natural: 10/2011; no h/b @ 10w5d; D&C: 12/19/2011; 2012: 3 failed rounds of Clomid, 1 failed IUI, 2nd IUI cancelled due to poor response; IVF #1 cancelled due to no response to Stims 2013: Anonymous Egg Donation Scheduled for first cycle 2/2013 with 7 frozen eggs + DH "Super Sperm". 2/2013: 1st ET using frozen DE cancelled after 4 fertilized embryos failed to cleave past 4-cell stage. Currently on BCP awaiting new donor to start cycle. Will be using fresh eggs this cycle Anticipated transfer around first or second week of April.
  • Do you think that the Bump Gods have even seen our comments or are they too preoccupied with their precious "site upgrade" to worry about weird infertiles?
