3rd Trimester

Rude people.

I went to the store today on my lunch because they have an amazing salad and fruit bar for cheap. I usually pack a lunch to save money but was craving em both, so I decided to indulge and treat myself today..

Well on the way to the salad/fruit bar sour gummy worms just happened to catch my eye (: So I grabbed em.

As I am making my salad this older gentleman 40's maybe 50's came up behind me and said, "It's nice to see a pregnant woman eating healthy." I thanked him, and then he looked the gummy worms and said, "I take that back, it's no wonder the American people are obese it's people like you, you people just buy junk."

I just looked at him and said, I'm sorry you feel that way and walked away. But I could have just cried, like really how mean can you be. Pre-Pregnancy  I was lucky to be 115 pounds because of medical issues, and just started to truly grow the bump. The weight I have gained is pure belly and no where else which is nice but seriously I'm pregnant not obese.

Anyone else have rude comment made to them?!

Re: Rude people.

  • Pegnant or not, it's no one's place to comment on what you're eating, except for your doctor if necessary.  I'm personally obese pre-pregnancy and would take great offense to his judgment regardless.  I would have said more than sorry you feel that way.

Don't let other people's comments get to you.  Too many people share too many opinions.

  • What an arrogant a-hole!  I can't believe you kept your composure and were still polite even after that jab.  You are a better woman than I....

  • No words....If that was me I would have just said, "Excuse me? Got a problem? You wanna throw down?" j/k But you know.

     This!!

  • What a jerk! I think you handled it well though, any stronger comments and you may have been giving him the satisfaction he was looking for.

  • OMG! WTF?! What an a-hole. How can he assume it is any of his business to know what you are eating. No, never had anything that rude said to my face. I would've probably been shocked into silence. And then a half hour later thought of a million things I wished I said. The rudest thing that was said to me was one of my mom's friends kept rubbing on my belly AFTER I had my first son and jokingly would say 'are you sure you're not pregnant again.' She would not let up. Kept saying the joke every time I saw her and she'd wait for a crowd too. Finally I rubbed her belly and said 'oh it must be twins.' She was really upset  and gave some lame excuse about it being okay for HER to be fat because she was old. I got a lecture from my mom. She was mortified. But her friend never rubbed by belly after that.
  • How rude.

I have been surprised by the comments I have heard from middle-aged and older men compared to other groups. I haven't received many comments like this, I think less than a handful over the span of the pregnancy, but those I have received have shocked me because of who they're come from! Don't take it personally. For whatever reason, he deemed himself qualified to make a judgement on someone else's decision, and you just happened to be in the line of fire. Keep doing what you're doing and keeping that baby and yourself happy and healthy!

  • I haven't had any rude comments yet.

You handled that situation a lot better than most could have.  I don't understand how people just come out with crap like that, but he deserves a nice throat punch.  Don't take it to heart, some people just have no sense.

  • What an AHole...personally I would have taken the gummy worms, put them in my mouth and said MMMMMM...so good. Then walked away. People need to get over themselves
  • I personally think that when men are rude to women for no reason, they likely beat their wives. I hope he feels like a big macho man for putting a little pregnant woman in her place.....disgusting.

  • During my first trimester sour candies really helped with the morning sickness.  One day I was volunteering at my son's school library and was eating some sour patch kids. Another lady came up to me, yanked the candy out of my hand, and told me "you shouldn't eat that sh!t--it's bad for your baby,".

I grabbed it back, laughed it off and told her to mind her to mind her business. I would have said much more if I had not been at the school.

  • Wow I give you props for not punching him in the face! I would have exchanged some notsonice words. Who gives a crap if you treat yourself to gummy bears! You're pregnant and supposed to gain weight! Ignore people. You have a baby belly and that's much better than being obese and pregnant. Sorry to hear!

  • That is absolutely terrible.  I don't know how you maintained your composure.  I would have told him off for sure.

Holy hell. Poor you. What an awful feeling. People have been exceedingly kind during this pregnancy aside from the OMG you're so BIG comments, but I did used to be about 300lbs and definitely recall the comments people started making once I lost a huge amount. At my lowest I was 127. At that point others started feeling comfortable, way TOO comfortable IMHO, and revealing things that they had been saying behind my back all along. It didn't make it less hurtful at a size 6. I will always be 300lbs on the inside. I seriously don't know how you didn't tell him to fcuk off.

how does waiting until you're thin make the comments any more okay? seriously. they're still being asshats

I think obese and pregnant women would find your statement highly offensive. Sorry you feel that way about people of different sizes. We're all self concious about our weight as it is at this stage.

"Yep, that's us Americans.  Now, are you from a country where everyone is a giant d!ck?"

  • I would have told him to f**k off. That is clearly crossing the line. At least with my hormones. You handled it way better than I would have. After that not only do you deserve gummy worms.. you should have yourself a gummy worm banana split sundae!

  • I'm lurking because I'm not pregnant (that I know of - fingers crossed as tomorrow is Pee-On-A-Stick day!)....but I am fat (275ish) :)

I hate situations like that because I want to be a queen B back, but want to have class and not stoop to the level of a derfwad like that.  I would have loved to have said in a sunny happy voice "Its so nice to finally meet the one person who has never indulged in any kind of treat.  I've heard about you on the news before, but never thought I'd meet you in person!" and walked away.

  • I had a women ask me how far along I was. I said 6 months. She said I thought you were at 7 because how big you are. I smiled and told her that my dr doesn't think I'm overweight. Which is true because a week before I was at the dr's office for a check up. My mom keeps asking me who is bigger me or her. I keep smiling and saying her because she has wider hips than me and my extra weight is all in the front belly area. My mom is the type of woman who would say rude comments so I dish back at her.
