XP- Dealing with HOT carseat for baby wearers

Hey all! XP'd from the AP board. 

If I'm going into a store for a while, I will typically put DD in our mei tai carrier instead of leaving her in her infant carseat. (She just seems more comfortable.) But, that means the infant seat stays in the car and gets SERIOUSLY hot. I'm even a little concerned it could burn her skin hot (the seat material is sort of plasticy).

How have other baby wearers dealt with this?

Is the seat in direct sunlight? If so, a shade on the window might help. The only part of my seats that I've ever noticed could be too hot for my LOs are the buckles. The metal has burnt my skin when I touched it before. I just make sure to be really careful not to let them touch my kids. I also start the car to get the air going before I start strapping kids in. It stinks that RF kids don't really get direct air, but at least it gets it flowing for them.

Get a thick blanket and toss some ice packs (in a baggie) in your carseat.  Cover with blanket (or the winter shower cap kind of cover.)  It will keep it frosty cool in the seat.

I put one of those reflective car windshield things over the car seat. It still gets warm, but its not hot to the touch. I once burned my now 4 year old on a leg belt buckle when she was little before I realized how hot it could get Ouch
