  • What do you mean by nap consolidation? 3+ naps into 2? 2 naps into 1? DD did not go from 2 naps to 1 nap until she was 20 months or so. Babies really need their sleep, so they need 2 naps for a while. DS takes a really good morning nap, but the afternoon one is a cat nap. We are working on it...

  • Sorry I meant going down to 2 naps. DS takes 3 or 4 now depending on the length.

  • I am a FTM but our boys have gone to two solid naps and one cat nap now.  Their day looks something like this.

5am - wake up, eat, get dressed and go to daycare around 6:30

8am - bottle then down for a good 2 hour nap

    10:30 - up to play

12am - bottle and more play time

1pm - their best nap that can be 2 to 3 hours depending

    4ish - bottle and up

    5is - 20 to 30 minute cat nap

    6:30 in bed

The times shift one way or another each day as we aren't on a schedule just a routine.

I am not sure if that helps but it was like one day they were happy longer while awake and that is just how we fell.  It really shifted to that in about 2 to 3 days.  It was right about the time they got more interested in toys and starting picking them up off the floor.

  • DD1 got into a 3-nap rhythm sometime around 6ish months. It looked like this:

Up between 6-7, 1 hour nap around 9

2-3 hour nap (in my arms) starting somewhere between 12-1

    30-45min nap around 5-6ish

    bedtime at 8pm

Then she went down to 2 naps (dropped the evening one) when she was about 8ish months old. The other naps stayed the same.

She went down to one nap when she was about 14ish months.

I think you're asking about the first round, though - as in, when do they go from irregular naps to the regular 3-nap pattern? If so, I think for us it was more gradual. It's normal for their first nap to regulate first and then the afternoon nap later.

Thank you for sharing your expertise! I am noticing that his first nap is starting to be around 9. It does vary from when he wakes up of course. Today he got up earlier at 6:45, so his nap started at 8:30 and yesterday he slept until 8 (not usual) so napped at 10.

I think in the next couple of weeks I'm going to start getting him up at the same time every day which would aid the process. That and I want him to get used to a regular wake up time for when I go back to work in September.
