Did you wean gradually or go cold turkey?
ds is 13 months and nurses about 5x a day...I want the weaning process to be as natural as possible. Tell me about your weaning process.
We've been trying to wean now for the last 5 months. I started with a "Don't Offer, Don't Refuse" method which is exactly as it sounds; I don't offer, but when she asks I don't refuse. Yeah that didn't really slow things down as much as I would have liked.
Now that we are nearing the 2yr mark fast, I've moved to the "Ask 5 times" method. This is my version of when she asks, I try to distract with other things; and if she asks 5 times within a few minutes, then I give in and nurse her. This has definitely started to show signs of working. She's now down to nursing at naps, bedtime, MOTN, and for comfort if she is hurt.
We're going very gradually.
I wouldn't go cold turkey at a year. That's asking for mastitis.
