Dragonfly1226:I had a blocked bowel so my experience was abnormal. I had surgery on a Wednesday morning and did not have a BM or even pass any gas until Monday morning. The pain was so bad that I never even felt pain from the surgery itself. I did everything they said to do to prevent this - was up and walking as soon as I was allowed, walked around often, took my stool softeners, etc. At the hospital they tried everything to help move me along - milk of magnesia, suppositories, warm prune juice... I eventually wound up on an all clear liquid diet. When i finally did go i could hardly stand to eat anything but easy to digest, bland foods. It was about three weeks before I could eat normally again. I was hospitalized for two extra days.
That sounds horrific! How did you end up with a blocked bowel?
