Just came back from the worst experience! i was at kidville, just a local play gym, with both kids. katie had a poopy diaper so i wondered exactly how i was going to handle it since i haven't really been out by myself with both kids not close to home and had to change her. i went into the bathroom with both kids. put katie on the changing table and was asking jackson to behave, told him to stand by the sink. got katie's diaper off, full of poop, had at least wiped her butt and then jackson turned off the light. pitch black. i ask him to turn on the light. he's having trouble. i reach into my purse and get my cell phone for some light. i'm doing this huge reach, trying to hold katie on the changing table and turn on the light. i'm touching everything on the light but it seems to be one of those sensor lights and not turning on. i ask jackson to open the door, because the door is far enough away that i can't get to it. katie starts screaming at the top of her lungs, and she never screams, so i'm wondering if something is wrong (all this time, poop still in an open diaper near her feet). then jackson starts screaming at the top of his lungs. i'm locked in the dark. i have 5% power left on my cell but am trying to get the number of kidville to call the front desk, and it's just loading, loading, so finally i call my husband and have him call. a lady finally comes and opens the door. turns out somehow jackson had broke the switch off the light. meanwhile katie had peed all over the changing table, and there was some soap residue on the table so she was all sudsy. in helping me out, the lady who opened the door threw away the diaper, but also threw away the new diaper that i had out, which was the only one i brought. i hadn't brought a change of clothes either, and everything was soaked from the pee. she went home in jackson's t-shirt (an extra i'd brought for him) and one of his extra diapers.
so what are your tips for making sure none of this ever happens again (aside from a better stocked diaper bag!)? how do you keep your toddler in check while you change your little one in a public bathroom?
