  • You can do warm compresses with a clean warm washcloth.  You can also massage the tear duct gently.  Unfortunately, your LO may have goopy eyes for quite awhile!  You might want to see the Pedi on Monday to make sure nothing else is going on.

  • Me me me. I do. I do.

My DS1 had one and we went as far as seeing a specialist and setting an appointment for surgery to clear it up. Luckily we didn't have to do surgery.

With a very clean, trimmed, pinky finger, everytime she eats just so you are sure to do it frequently throughout the day push the corner of the eye in and down the shaft of the nose with even firm pressure. You are trying to break the membrane blocking the duct from clearing out. It may take months ours cleared up around 7 months. When cleaning the gunk make sure to wipe from the inside to the outside of the eye and keep it as clean as you can. I liked to use cotton balls. When you give her a bath or if she gets crusties use a warm wash cloth to break up the hard stuff...I would wet a washcloth and put it in the microwave for 10 seconds.

Be prepared for pink eye. She is more susceptible. The discharge coming from the eye will be lime green and the eye and around the eye will be red in either order. When you get meds try to get the drops over the cream because they are a lot easier to administer.

Good luck and try to put off surgical intervention until at least after 6 months when the risks from anesthesia go down.

  • My pediatrician said to massage the bridge of his nose on either side to unclog the duct. Also, to put a drop of breast milk in the corner and let it seep into the eye. Sounds crazy, but it healed over night.
  • E had one and by wiping it with warm clean cloth, massaging the tear duct and putting a bit of breast milk on it it cleared up by 4 weeks or so, the pedi said it would most likely clear up by nine months to a year.

  • Nemo was born with one. Ditto he others about massaging the tear duct and keeping it clean. Thankfully hers cleared up a couple of days ago but we were told it could be months as well.

  • DD had this and DS has one too. We used a warm wash cloth to gently massage the duct.  I also squirted a couple drops of breastmilk in the corner of his eye which helped clear up the goop!  Liquid gold!
  • My son got it around one week old. We used a warm cloth to wipe the goop and put breastmilk in it. Cleared up in three days! Magic milk!
