TTC After a Loss

Intro :)

Hi ladies,

I intro'd a little yesterday but am back to formally say "howdy!" and start getting to know folks here.

My name is Emily, and my husband's name is Matt. We're in our mid-30s, been together nearly 10 years but got married just a little over 10 months ago. He works in IT, supporting a student print/computer lab at a university, and I'm a PhD student in clinical psychology (going into dissertation phase in the next few months - can't wait to be done with coursework!!!!). We have two kitties, Punky and Guenevere (Gwennie), both rescues, who we adore and who keep us on our toes. We're both on the "geeky" side, he reads comics, is a gamer, and is into sci-fi and high fantasy reading. I'm more "geek lite" in that I can follow everything he's into, but my main "geekishness" comes through in my reading preferences (fantasy, high fantasy, and historical sci-fi/fantasy a la Outlander series). We live in rainy Pacific Northwest and LOVE it. I grew up in Washington and he's from upstate NY, but we met in southern California in college and within a few years we had run out of steam for living in the city and moved where we found work - brought me back home and him to a place that he's fallen in love with.

We're trying for our first :) We've only been actively "trying" for a couple of cycles, but I've been off BC (Mirena) for a year and a half. I'm still learning the ropes of the whole TTC thing, but I'm a quick study and value common sense wherever it applies.

DH was super duper supportive of everything yesterday, when I told him the whole story that lead me to the conclusion of a chemical pregnancy. He was disappointed but also quick to point out a few positives we've learned. He is deeply emotional but also very pragmatic, and he's pretty good at soothing when needed. He's really a treasure :)

Anyway, that's all I can think of to intro. any questions, ask away - I'm pretty easygoing and happy to answer and/or share, offer ideas and support, etc.

Hope your stay is short and you get the support you need!

Punky came to us as "Patches" but that seemed too generic. It was a week or two we had her before the name "Punky" occurred to us, just seemed to fit her little personality+ her giant ears, feet, and tail.

Gwennie came to us with her name, and in fact it was her name that convinced me to adopt her on the spot. I was at the vet getting flea medicine for Punky, and while I waited I was playing with this little black kitten who was all alone in the kennel in the waiting room, she was up for adoption and the vet was fostering her. I asked at the desk about her and the receptionist said her name was Guenevere, not knowing at all how much  both DH and I LOVE Arthurian legend... well, that did it for me. I filled out the paperwork to adopt her on the spot, and went home later to tell DH what I had done. She came to live with us a few days later and she's been a queen in our house ever since.

I'll figure out how to do PIPs and post them tomorrow :)

Welcome, I am sorry for your loss. I will tip my hat to a fellow geek. You like high fantasy? Are you reading anything now?

Right now I've had to force myself to put away fun fiction reading so I can focus on getting two final papers written. I love Mercedes Lackey and Piers Anthony, but haven't read them in a while. I was reading The Hobbit to my nephew, our agreement was that if we read through it together then I'd get him the movie. Also, a couple months ago had picked up "The Once and Future King" again until I was reminded that I had missed out on the Outlander books. So I started Outlander about a month ago and breezed through it in about a week, and dove right into the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, and ate that up in about a week also. I am DYING to get into Voyager, but alas we're in the process of moving to a new apartment AND I have two short finals due by 7/10. After that, I'll indulge in an escape into Voyager. My husband has been bugging me to get into the Dresden books, and I eventually will, but not until I've satisfied my Outlander appetite.

    What are your favorites?
