I have never heard of this, chewing gum can get your metabolism running due to the act of mastication. I do not know how that correlates with gas though. I think I heard that it can actually give you more gas.
Drinking warm liquids like tea can help.

Nope, you're correct. I was told no gum, no straws, no carbonated drinks, no cold drinks until I was passing gas. They all cause excess gas buildup.
I'm with PPs-chewing gum can make gas worse.
