Kawaii?

I have heard nothing but good things about this brand and you obviously cant beat the price so Im wondering what the catch is. Does anyone have anything negative or constructive to offer against Kawaii? I understand the need for a good mix but if they are so great and so cheap I cant see what every stash wouldnt be primarily Kawaii

Re: Kawaii?

  • They're not made in the US. That's important to some people. My newborn stash is primarily Kawaii Pure & Naturals, and I have about 8 Kawaii OS diapers also.

I figured there had to be something wrong with them or something like you because they are so cheap but we haven't found a thing yet.

I try to buy US but I tend to think of Canada as a really big 51st state :) Far better than ordering from a sweatshop in China or India.

The company is in Canada, but their factory is in China.

    Good to know!

  • We have five Kawaii P&Ns.  It's our favorite middle-of-the-night diaper change diaper (because you absolutely cannot screw it up).  We chucked the MF inserts they come with (because I loathe that stuff) and stuff them with prefolds.

We don't use them by day because we prefer breathable fibers when we're awake to do frequent diaper changes.

If we had her in day care, we'd definitely use them for her caregivers.

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.
  • We had 14 kawaii in our daycare rotation along with glowbugs and fuzzibunz. The elastics in everyone went between nine and fourteen months of use. These diapers were always line dried. While I didn't expect them to last through multiple children I was disappointed in their lack of longevity. They were great while they lasted though

  • The majority of mine have been great, but one order I got delaminated fairly quick. It was too late for warranty, but they hadn't been heavily used or mistreated. Bad lot of TPU, I think.

Still, even with that, I happily ordered more. The aplix on some needed replacing around a year.

Some people don't like buying Chinese-made diapers. *shrug* I have my purchasing decisions that I worry about, but I just can't get worked up about that.

  • We have a few of the regular square tab, and they have not held up very well. Some stitching has come undone and the fleece gets pilled really badly and seems like it would be uncomfortable to wear. I try not to use them much. The Goodnight Heavy Wetter covers work great for overnight because of the thick PUL, but we use a Flip organic insert and a Babykicks Joeybunz hemp inside, not the microfiber they come with. The fleece still sucks on those so we've had to replace some over the last 2 years.

  • I don't think I've seen a fleece inner that doesn't pill. If you don't like it, buy suedecloth versions.
  • I haven't had issues with mine.  They have held up well and work great for overnight with extra inserts.  I think their aplix and snaps are great.

  • I've heard some don't hold up as long as some the more expensive brands, but I will probably have to use daycare at some point for this little bean, and I keep reading stories of lost diapers at daycare. I'm thinking as long as there are no major problems with my "alva's" or kawaii, I'll be sending those to daycare due to being cheaper to replace. I would cry if they lost a pricey diaper.
