Breastfeeding

One sided feeding and pumping

I'm returning to work soon and I was wondering... LO typically is only a one sided feeder. Usually he'll only take both breasts for one feeding maybe two if he's extra hungry but the majority of feeding is one breast. So when I pump at work should I just pump one breast at a time to stay consistent with baby? Or should I go ahead and pump both?

  • I would pump both. It is more efficient to do both breasts anyways!

I'd pump both even though you only usually nurse on one side.

  • Double pump.  Pump is not as efficient as baby, so you will probably need both sides to 1) get enough to keep up with bottles 2) Keep your supply up since pump gets a lot less out than baby

This. I've been back to work for 2 weeks now. I pump 2x a day during a 12 hr shift and get 4 ounces each time.
