Transition to basinette

So LO will only sleep while being held or on her babybjorn. She is 3.5 weeks and I want to start getting her to sleep on her basinette in our room. Do you think I should start with day naps? Night sleep or everything all at once? On previous occasions I can get her to sleep about 30 mins in a basinette. Also if she has only a short nap do I try and extend it or assume that's all she'll do. I am not trying to sleep train her I just think we'd both sleep better if she wasn't on my chest all night. TIA for any advice.

Re: Transition to basinette

  • I would start with naps and be consistant. You may have to lay her down 5x before it works.

  • My LO is the same way. She's 2 weeks old. Just the past few days, she has started sleeping in the PnP in our room. She sleeps well for the first 2 to 3 hours of the night, but then wakes up every hour. Sometimes she needs to eat, sometimes she just needs a snuggle before being laid back down.

We had been staying in the recliner and letting her sleep on us all night, but now we just put her back in the PnP after each wake up and feeding. She doesn't fuss when we lay her back down. Hopefully, she will start staying there for longer stretches. For naps during the day, she will now sleep in the rock n play for a short while, but prefers to sleep on her tummy on the floor [with me supervising].
Good luck to you! It definitely makes a big difference to sleep in bed rather than upright with a baby on you all night long.

I kept trying the bassinet and she hated it no matter what. I tried the pnp and she sleeps forever in there. Try starting at nap time and go from there.

Our LO did this exactly! She would not go down at all for the first week or so, but we just kept trying and now she will go down most times without a fight. I don't even remember if we started with naps or nighttime, but she just needed some time to get used to being put down. She still doesnt go down everytime, but its certainly helpful when she does! Just keep trying and she'll go eventually. LO was the same way with the swing too.
