1st birthday party menu

My DDs first birthday party is coming up. I'm totally going all out and so excited. But I'm stumped on what to serve. We definitely won't grill or anything like that, it's too darn hot.

I'll likely do a couple sandwich trays, fruit/veggie tray, fruit salad, and pasta salad. Easy, and most everyone will find something they like, even the kiddos but it seems boring/overdone to me and I want everything to be special (not that DD will even care).

I know I'm over thinking this but wondering what others are serving.

We are planning DD's party now.  I want to enjoy the party, not cook the whole time, so we decided to do all things that can be made the day before and reheated- pulled pork sandwiches (in the crock pot), coleslaw, potato salad, mashed sweet potatoes.  We'll have some chips and dip, grapes and strawberries for snacks.

I always over-do-it for parties, so I'm modeling our plans after a 1st birthday party we went to last month.  They did lasagna and green salad for dinner, chips and dips for snacks and it was great.

My grandmother is letting us have the party at her house (since we live out of state from the family). I wanted to not make a mess of her kitchen, and bringing food was out of the question since we're flying in.

I'm ordering pizza and buying chips. I'm going to make fruit skewers. And I also have candy in bags shaped like butterflies (our theme). No one has to cook and everyone can enjoy themselves so I think it's win win.

Alladr, ours is a butterfly theme as well! Where did you find butterfly candy?

Sorry let me clarify...on pinterest I found the idea. I picked out random candy (you could do healthier option like fruit or trail mix too). I bought snack size zip lock bags, and I decorated clothes pins to look like butterfly bodies. I then stuffed each side of the ziplock with different candy. Twisted at the center and put it in the clip. I did colorful candy too so my butterflies have colorful wings :)

The other thing I'm doing (another pinterest idea) is for our fruit skewers I'm doing to cut watermelon into slices like you'd slice bread. Then I'll lay it flat and cookie cutter out butterfly shapes. So the fruit on the skewers will be butterflies.

And my final themed food is the table snacks as people get there. I'm taking pretzels and filling the 4 holes with M&Ms (using melted white choc.) to keep in place.

Here are some links that I used for inspiration. Let me know if you have other ideas you guys are doing!

...oh and I saw you were thinking a fruit&veggie tray so here's another idea instead of the pretzel butterflies (my party is really a cookout of adults and LO's the only baby so my menu isn't healthy at all so this may fit better for you)

I am currently planning DD party as well.  Our theme is Ladybugs - we will do pasta salad, fruit tray, veggie tray, some small finger foods, then cake and ice cream.
