  • We have this one from Dreambaby:

We don't use it at the top of the stairs, but it says you can install it that way. It has a wider opening than the Regalo Easy Step that we have. It swings closed automatically, which is usually good. But if we want to prop it open, we have to use a bungy cord. You do have to lift up when you open it, but it's still easy to do with one hand. And it will swing both ways. It's one of the more expensive ones, and I found that Diapers.com was the cheapest place with free shipping.

  • Thanks! I was figuring we would get one that screws in to the wall as opposed to tension since its at the top of the stairs, but this would work great as a playroom gate!!

  • We have the Summer Infant one with swinging gate. I believe it does come with option to screw it into the walls.  We did not use screws because we have a door frame at the top of the stairs and the gate is installed securely behind a trim On the frame.  We had the same type of gate at the bottom of the stairs.

It has hardware if you want to bolt it.  We found we didn't have to.  It fit really tightly.  It was at the top of our stairs for over 3 years and it held up perfectly.  We will pull it out again in for this house.
