Wrist pain

Any other moms experiencing wrist pain? I have for the past few months or so, and it is getting worse. So of course I google it, and read about DeQuervians Syndrome which is common for new moms. It sounds like wearing a splint and taking ibuprofen is about the only thing you can do, or rest it but obviously I kinda need to pick up and hold and change my baby so rest is not exactly feasible. Just wanted to vent and see if anyone else is suffering too or for any STMs who had it if it gets better or goes away at a certain point.

Re: Wrist pain

  • Carpal tunnel? It's super common during pregnancy and for people who didn't have it previously usually resolves after baby arrives. I had it before pregnancy and it has only gotten worse since runt has arrived since immobilizing really isn't an option. I'd talk it over with your doc honestly since at least that possibility is fixable. I've never heard of DeQuervians Syndrome but I know what I'm about to go google lol.

  • I totally have this.  I was going to get an appointment with a physical therapist but now I guess I'll forego that.  :-)

Smile55k, is it worse in the morning for you?  I wake up and it kills, and then throughout the day it kind of loosens up a bit and is not that bad.  I took an Advil last night, hoping it would hit the inflammation overnight, but no dice.

Also curious to hear from any STMs who have dealt with it...

It is sooo worse in the morning than any other time! I wonder what we do while sleeping that makes it so bad! I can hardly pick up my LO out of the crib in the morning.

  • I have it, and I saw a doctor about it.  He gave me wrist splints, and it only sort of helps.  When people sleep, most if us bend our wrists, which aggrevates carpal tunnel, if you have it. It wakes me up more than the baby. My hands go numb all the time, which is stressful taking care of my baby.

The other two options are getting a cortisone shot in each wrist or surgery.  I thought it might go away, but I'm about ready to make that appointment to get the shots.  I hear you're out of commission for a day, but it completely goes away...

  • I had this in my left wrist years ago. The only correction I know of is a cortisone shot. I also got it in my right wrist when DD arrived. I got the cortisone shot about a month ago and it's great!!! A hand specialist is who I had to see. A brace never worked for me and meds only do soo much. Good luck. And according to my LC it does not affect your milk supply.
