So DH and I are planning to head on a vacation Sept/October. We feel like there will be less kids, and we can escape the not-so-nice weather here. Preferably something warm...

We also have been to the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. They have a club side that is for adults only if you want to get away from children. This resort was nice and fairly reasonable. We booked through Apple Vacations.

I just googled this resort and it looks amazing. I like to dream because I am sure it will be a few years before we take another big vacation.

I haven't been to the Grand St. Lucia, but we've done Antigua and Bahamas Royal Bahamian - both are amazing. Antigua is more romantic (our honeymoon) but the Bahamas were an absolute blast and the staff was ridiculously awesome. I'm still Facebook friends with some of the staff from when we went in 2010.

  • We don't get to go on many vacations since we both travel so much for work -- and usually are vacays are tacked on to a work trip for one of us. Being in Alabama we are close to Gulf Shores/Destin, which we love. We also love New Orleans and Vegas. We LOVED Boston but probably not the weather you were looking for.

  • For warmth, we loved the cruise we took this past March. If you choose a cruise line (like Norwegian) that focuses less on kid activities (like Disney might) and less on being a "booze cruise" of college kids (like Carnival tends to be), you can get a pretty kid-free, warm, relaxing vacation.

The other thing DH and I love to do is find little B&Bs tucked away on their own yet close to several activities you can do during the day (everything from historical sites to hiking to amusement/water parks to food tours to wineries... you get the idea!). Many B&Bs don't allow kids under a certain age. There are two good resources to search if you're interested: http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/ and http://www.bbonline.com/

Hope that helps a little--it sounds like a great plan to take a vacation period!!

Ah this sounds amazing, I want to do this someday but it isn't in the cards this year.
I would recommend a cruise if you want to relax a lot. It is nice to not have to worry about food, travel, or room and board.
I would also say try the white mountains that time of year, they are beautiful in Oct. But I was born and raised in NH I might be biased. Let us know where you go!

  • Last summer we did a cruise to Alaska with his while fam. It was awesome and so much fun. It was great being able to be lazy and have the boat do all the work for us.

Another all time favorite is Cabo San Lucas. We've been twice together and H has gone many more times. It's always fun and sunny. Mexico is always a good choice.

  • Don't know where you are coming FROM but we love Florida. We go to St. George Island every year and my parents will be down there for the month (yes, you heard me right) of October. It's still warm there then. ETA: It's a very quiet, private island with not much around or to do. No hotels - all houses/condos.

Also, I love the Tampa area (the beaches) like Clearwater, St. Pete, etc. They will definitely still be warm then as well.

I have LOVED Sandals Grande in Antigua.  Its an amazingly beautiful place with excellent service. We splurged and got the room with a butler.  A once in a lifetime trip.  I also LOVE charleston, SC.  I love that it is city, beach, and history all rolled into one package.

We always go to the Gulf Coast. Usually we stay in Destin, Fl but this last time we went to Orange Beach, Al& loved it. It's just so laid back & relaxing.

For a more fun vacation, we love going to Disney World.
