Trouble TTC

How do you dispose of your needles?

My sharps container is now full, but it says on the side to call my local EPA for disposal, and not to throw it into the trash.    Needless to say, I don't have a local EPA but when I called the county hotline, I was on hold forever, and then the call dropped.

Should I just tape it up real good and chuck it?  Or maybe take it to my local pharmacy for disposal?  What do you do?

Daaang girl, either you use a lot of needles or you have a real small sharps container.  I'm on my fourth cycle that had any use for sharps container and mine is about half way full.  I've never thrown it out because I figure I will when we're "done".  I would talk to your RE about it.

Hmm maybe I got a little one.  It's a little larger than a 16oz coffee cup?  I've been taking two shots per day (stim + ganirelix), and I was instructed to throw everything in -- the syringes, the extra needle, that plastic thingie to puncture the vials, and  the vials (7 vials total per day).

Hopefully I won't need one after Saturday's IUI, fingers crossed!

Ha, yup it's a combo of the two.  Mine is about the size of a 2 liter bottle of pop and while the first two cycles I had all the stuff you're talking about for mixing my own gonal F, since then I've used follistim pens and all I throw away is the needle which is about the size pf the tip of my pinky.

  • Confession time, I haven't thrown away my needles from my trigger yet.  I read online and in my state, one of the proper methods of disposing of needles is to put them in a laundry detergent container (specifically says do not use other plastic jugs(like milk or juice) and do not use glass containers (duh).) clearly labeled "do not recycle."  I've been waiting for us to empty a detergent container, so right now the needles are sitting in the box the meds came in.
