Birth story: On Monday, April 29th, Petra's Pebbles was born via primary c-section. She was 20 inches long and 6 lbs 7 oz at the time. Unfortunately, while she was early full term by one day, she was very much a preemie in many ways. She became severely jaundiced and began losing weight, and was down 13% of her original mass by the time she was just 40 hours old. Mr Petra and I spent the first 5 days of her life not sure she would make it. Someday soon I will post the long version of this, but not today.
Today, she is 9 days old.
Today, I am running on 6 blissful hours of sleep.
Today, she has regained most of her birthweight.
Today, we went out and ran errands together and I did not insist on sitting in the back with her.
Today, I was only asked if I were her 'foster mom', not her 'grandma.'
Today, her liver is fully functional.
Today, she not longer is fighting the antibodies that I passed to her during her birth.
Today, she breast fed for the first time.
Today, I am mother to a healthy living child.
Today, I no longer (constantly) fear that she won't make it.
Today, I am thankful for the steadfast support I have received from the AL community over the years I've been trying to get here. So very, very thankful.
