Yesterday, I had the girls at a large public playground. About 10 mins before I was going to take the girls home, a family arrives with two boys around the ages of 4 to 6 years old, I'm guessing. Both boys had toy guns that made noises. They kept pretending to shoot at other kids on the playground.
I overheard two other moms make comments about the toys guns. They didn't say anything to the parents of the boys with toy guns. I saw those mom leave with their kids very quickly.
Shortly after that I left too. I wanted to say something to parents of the boys with the toy guns, but I decided not too. I was alone with the girls, and we had to walk home.
I didn't want to cause a huge scene. However, I did make sure the mother overheard me say to B that we are leaving because it's getting too wild here. I did look at that mother and then at one of her sons with the toy gun. So I'm pretty sure she got my drift.
I'm not antigun, but I don't think it's appropriate to bring toy guns to a public playground. In your backyard, fine, whatever it's your house.
I told my Mom about it. She told me I should call the township, and suggest they add a rule of no toy weapons to the playground rules. The playground is adjacent to the local elementary school too. Sometimes school kids come over during their recess with their recess aids.
I just really bothered me.
