I wasn?t fully successful with BF our boy. I had a very low supply and so we did mixed feeding - supplementing I think you call it - till 6mths and then he was just on formula.Hasnt done him any harm as he?s been off the charts in height and weight since he was 3 mths old
This time round I was determined to give BF another go. With DS I was sure my supply was so low because, coupled with the stress of being a FTM, I just wasnt eating and drinking enough.
So now I have a water bottle permanently to hand and just take huge swigs throughout the day. I make a determined effort, and it is an effort!, to drink at least 3 bottles of water during the day, and get thru one bottle during the night.
I can?t get some of the ingredients for Lactation cookies, so I?ve been making Flapjack (oats, butter, brown sugar and golden syrup). I add ground walnuts, which are considered to be a "superfood" and chopped apricots cz I like them
And I kid you not our little Delilah - born at 5lbs 12oz, has now doubled her birth weight as of this week!! and the huge thing is...she only gets a bottle of formula about twice a week.
I just can?t believe I can feed her myself. how crazy is that? Especially for me, as it takes sooo much effort to just keep eating and drinking all day, every day.
But the Flapjack, (and all the water!) has been doing it?s job.
Aside from lactation cookies and their ilk, what do you swear by to keep up your supply?? I?d love some new ideas.
