theroadahead:Haha I have had one since I was 6 weeks along, it was on sale on Amazon.
ladybugpjb:We never had one, but I remember reading other people's stories of how awesome it is. I just can't bring myself to pay 20 for a teether.
I also like that it's natural rubber. Some of the reviews expressed concern about babies gagging themselves on the long legs, so I think we might get one of these:
Although it makes sense that babies would like how the long legs reach the backs of their mouths.
Also, ever since somebody talked about how babies might chew up the sides of their cribs, there is a small part of me that's thought about preparing for one like I might prepare for a puppy, so the comparison to a dog toy doesn't bother me.
I have a funny story about this Giraffe. A few weeks before my wedding, we did a family and friends joint bachelor/bachelorette party. When my cousins (2 sisters) were leaving the bar they found this giraffe on the ground outside their car. They were a bit tipsy and thought it was hilarious, so they took it. They decided it was the wedding mascot and took it with them when they went dress shopping. It was there when I got my hair highlighted and it was brought in the limo to my wedding and reception. My mom actually dressed it up with a veil and flowers! haha
Here's a pic before the wedding with me holding the "mascot".

It's Sophie! She has a name your know! ;)
And it's so darn popular because it's one thing that about 95% of children absolutely adore and they can entertain themselves with it from a very young age.
I would also say that most toys aimed for the under six months crowd look like dog toys. They both have to be tough, chewable and made for those with limited motor skills in the hand/paw region.
hst:Babies love it, it's easy to grasp, and safe to chew but my dog wanted it so bad, it caused issues.
I can totally see it causing issues. My dog would want it everytime it squeaks
