Now obviously there are going to be babies that don't like having their arms swaddled down, and I thought my baby was one of them. She would grunt and you could see her straining to move her arms from day one. We've been attempting to swaddle her with both arms down, one arm in / one arm out, both arms out... just trying to figure out what worked! She typically bed-shares most of the night, sometimes sleeps 2-3 hours in her cradle. Usually eats 2-3 times in the middle of the night.
Well last night I decided to put both arms in the swaddle again... it's probably been 2-3 weeks since I've done it. She woke up a few times between 7 and 8:45 (DH and I having to go shush her or rock for a few minutes each time she cried)... ate for a few minutes at 8:45, and then slept for 7.5 hours in her cradle!! I woke up at 3:45am and couldn't believe she hadn't made a peep all night. I had to get up to pump because my chest was going to explode, but she made it til 4:30am!
Moral of the story: If you're having sleep issues, don't give up on swaddling, even if you think they don't like it! I'm so happy I tried again - and we'll definitely keep doing it now that we (finally) had good results =)
