DD is 6 weeks old. We have been very diligent since birth of putting her to sleep in her crib, most often before she is fully asleep (however, we do not let her cry it out. Occasionally she needs help falling asleep and then we help.) During the day she does really well falling asleep on her own, in fact in the last few days we do not even need the pacifier. However at night I'm finding we have this weird issue where sometime in the 5:00 hour (and we usually wake up to feed around 4 am) she wakes up and is obviously tired and cranky, obviously not hungry, and will not go back to sleep without being held. This morning I tried to let her fuss for a bit to see if she would fall back asleep on her own but her cries just escalated. If I hold her she will fall asleep pretty quickly but wake up as soon as she is in the crib.
Any thoughts? Is this a passing phase or do we have ideas to troubleshoot it? The night before last, she slept for seven hours straight so I am considering pushing back her last feeding, even if I have to wake her, until 10 or 10:30 pm in hopes that she will just sleep 7 hours and then we can both get up, and just avoid the getting up at 1 am, 4 am, and 5 am.
Thanks for your thoughts.
