1026pumpkin:I think as long as it's clear to everyone that MIL is the host, it's fine. It also saves you the trouble of having to get all your gifts home.
I agree with this. It is actually a win-win situation for you. I've hosted a couple of showers at the MTB's homes and it has worked out well. The guests get to see the nursery if MTB is so inclined and you don't have to haul presents from some other location and can be relaxed in your own home. Just make sure that MIL is doing the hosting. One of the MTB's I hosted for had a hard time giving the reins over to me...I had to keep making her "go sit down", "go visit with your friends/family", etc because she is a people pleaser. LOL

I had a baby shower hosted by a friend for me at my house and it was great. DH and I had the house cleaned and ready for her. She came over about 2 hours before the shower for set up (she brought decorations, paper plates, food and used my oven to warm up the appetizers) - I left during those two hours and went out to lunch and got a manicure and pedicure.
Guests got to see the nursery and afterwards it was awesome to not have to load up gifts. As the MTB, I absolutely loved it.
My MIL hosted my baby shower at my house. It's true that you don't have to worry about getting your gifts home, but you do have to worry about the clean up! Before and after the party.
I was around 7 months and huge! So I was exhausted after our shower/BBQ. We had basically a family shower, where men and children were invited along with the women. It was more of a house party, plus shower games! I remember hoping that everyone would go home soon so I could rest, but I did have lots of fun, and I didn't have to worry about driving home late after the party. There are pros and cons, but if I could do it again, I would choose a different venue than my home, just so I don't have to worry about cleaning. :) The house was a mess after, since we served alcohol and of course there were kids running around.
I think if you are having a "traditional" shower with women only, it might be less messy and chaotic. But no one thought that I was hosting my own shower, especially since my MIL sent the invites herself and it clearly said her name on them.
