When I had DD, I had my anatomy scan at 20 weeks. When I went for my first appointment two weeks ago, I was told that one of the changes in the last 2.5 years is that they now do an anatomy scan at 16 weeks in addition to 21 weeks. The reason being that the u/s machines are so detailed that now they can see any big issues as early as 16 weeks, so why not know about them earlier. They do another one at 21 weeks because there's smaller parts of the brain and other organs that they can't see at 16 weeks. It's all done at the hospital and all covered by my insurance so that's not an issue. ANd it's not about finding out the sex or anything, a la the lovely lady below.
Is this now typical practice across the country or just something that my overly attention to detail oriented doctor (and others like her) in Manhattan does? ANyone else's doctors doing this?
