June 2013 Moms

This isn't exactly pregnancy related but I figured I could get non biased opinions on here. I am getting married in feb i will be 25 weeks pregnant. His mom wants us to do the bouquet and garter toss. My fianc also wants to do so, but I feel like it's going to be more embarrassing for both me and the other single women at my wedding. I don't know how I feel about him crawling under my dress while I'm pregnan In front of my grandparents and all the other guests. Opinions?

Re: Traditions

  • I didn't wear my garter the entire day. It would have been uncomfortable. Instead, I put it on a little before the toss, and put it only at knee height. No "digging" for it, or going up too high. It worked out just fine.

  • You can always do what my sister did... She and BIL went into a side room and took off the garter. She is was too shy to do that part in front of others. This way it could be less embarrassing, if that the only reason you don't want to do it.

This story started at band camp on Sept. 6, 2002, when to people meet. Married on Nov. 14, 2009.

  • We didn't do it - my family tends to "over-celebrate" at open bars and there is no need to create any kind of scene that would encourage them to act out :)  No one mentioned anything about us not doing it - I'd say if you're not into it, forget about it. As long as your fiance is on board, no one else should really care.

  • I did a bouquet toss, but not a garter toss. I'm so glad we did it that way. Most weddings I've been to the guys haven't really cared about the toss, but the ladies love it.

  • I was embarrassed too but did it anyways and it was pretty funny doing it. He just stuck his hands up there, no head going under there or any funny business.. it was short in sweet. It will be over before you know it.

    IT'S A BOY

  • It's not that big of a thing but its your wedding, if you don't want it, don't do it.

  • We did the bouquet toss. We did not do the garter because I don't think it's cute. There were also young kids at our wedding.

I wore a garter and H took it off later, in the privacy of our bridal suite. :]

  • We did the Anniversary Dance and my bouquet went to the wife of the longest married couple (my grandma).  We skipped the garter toss.

  • We had a very casual beach wedding, and I wore linen pants with a frilly blouse. I didn't wear a garter. Don't wear one if you're not comfortable with it. I was nervous about kissing my husband when the notary pronounced us "husband and wife". I'm not huge on public displays of affection, especially in front of my parents, but we made our kiss tasteful yet passionate.

  • We did both. I didn't want to originally but caved because family said it's a "tradition". The dj made it funny and he used his hands and not his teeth. It wasn't as embarassing as I thought. That day goes by so fast that everything is a blur. Plus, people know what goes on at a wedding so it wasn't like it was unexpected. You will be the one to remember your wedding forever. Maybe ask why he wants to do it and if its a good reason, take it off privately and let him throw it LOL lets face it, grooms don't get to do much for the wedding.

  • We did both a bouquet toss, garter toss and teddy bear toss but Dh did not take the garter off my leg. Instead we had a garter to toss with the DJ (along with the teddy bears).

We choose to do the bouquet and garter toss at the same time with the guys on one side of the room and the gals on the other. It was fine.

We had a bunch of kids at our wedding so both DH and I loved the teddy bear toss and found that much more fun.

It's your wedding, do what you are comfortable with.

  • We did a lottery ticket toss instead of the bouquet and garter. We threw around 30 scratch off tickets from a high balcony. It was fun and everyone got to participate! Someone won 2 dollars! Haha

  • We only did the bouquet toss, not the garter. I've always thought the garter thing was kind of gross. I'd do whatever you're comfortable with, not what other people expect.

  • I wasn't pregnant but I don't like it so we skipped it. (Married last February) You don't need to do it if you don't want to. It's not necessary.

We did this too!  Skip it if you can get your hubby to be on board.
