I feel like this came out of no where but we loooooooooooove Anastasia! Middle name is probably Catherine. I know that's a mouthful but we've had other long combos on our list.
I was really wanting Ann or name with Ann as the first name but DH wasn't feeling any of them. And then suddenly said "What about Anastasia?" It sounded perfect coming form his lips, I actually cried. Years ago when we started dating he called out my name one time and I knew that I wanted to hear him say my name forever.
Anastasia means resurrection and Catherine means pure and they both mean a lot to us spiritually. I know it's a bit of a stretch but DH feels like it's close enough to Ann to honor this mother (her great granddaughter is also named after, so at least someone has the full Ann).
We do prefer the American pronunciation of An-uh-STAY-sha. It's what we're more familiar with and certainly what our area (kind of rednecky) is familiar with. We just figure since it's a legit pronunciation we should make it easier on her and go with what people will naturally want to say.
We will probably call her Annie, but we also like Ana (said like Anna since that's how we would say Anastasia) and even Ana Cate. Though I think we'll both call her the full Anastasia a lot too. I think it goes great with DS, Theodore nn Teddy. And since we'll be using a more English nickname I think it still goes well with others on our list should we have more children, so we're not trapped into a Greek theme.
Thanks for all the help ladies! It finally feels perfect and like I'm not settling! We find out the gender on January 15th and it feels great to have both name options settled. Margaret is still on the list if we ever have 2 girls, just not perfect for this round.
