Well, mine is obviously done because DD is 5 months but I recommend getting the book Baby Bargains (I bought it on my Kindle, super handy when out shopping!). The authors do a great job of explaining the different options for all sorts of baby stuff and give each company a rating based not only on safety and product performance but how well they stand behind their products. I found it very, very helpful when navigating the world of baby furniture.
Definitely start pinning on pinterest! Start thinking about furniture, setting your budget, etc., so that you don't wind up with sticker shock. Many brands have to be special ordered just like regular adult furniture so you'll want to allow plenty of time for that if you go that route.
My advice would be to just have fun with it.
Pics are in my blog. I kept it pretty simple
I don't have any pics readily available, but our nursery theme is Around the World.
We had a student from an art college paint a mural of the world on the wall with our son's name in different language son each continent. We got a rug and a painting of the USA from Target. There is a fair trade wooden mobile with children of the world on it...and art work and memorobelia from various places we have traveled on the walls. I love showing our son the various places of the world now as we play in his room.
For our second child someday, we hope to do a "Once Upon a Time" theme with books framed on the walls and famous pictures from storybooks.
My advice is do something that is meaningful to you...but also know that you only need to put as much time into it as you want to. If it becomes stressful, it's not worth it.
We went with a "jungle" theme... and ordered some AWESOME decals. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!

Thanks.... that's part of what we loved. All of the decals were 100% customizable. We selected all of the colors of each piece!
