It's a true old man name. It's like a baby Walter. Just can't picture it can you?
Also, I think of Harold and Maude. Good movie, but maybe not the best thing to think of in regards to a name.

Hal or Harry could be considered as NN until they grow into it.

Just because it's a family name.. that doesn't mean you have to use it. Some names just don't translate to the "modern world."

Well, there is Harold and the Purple Crayon, if that helps make it easier to see it on a child. But I agree that it's hard to picture a baby Harold. Harry, maybe.
If you don't love it, don't use it. We're skipping over several family names because we just don't like them.

Agree with PP that "old man" names don't fit babies as well as "old woman" names
