Longtime lurker here, and it's fitting that my first post is on what I consider to be my "home board." We're expecting our second baby this spring, and I have some girl name/sib-set questions that I'd love some opinions on.
DS is Abraham, nn Abe. His first and middle name are for DH's grandfather and great grandfather, so we'd like our second child's name to have significance as well. Plus, we're Jewish, and in our faith it's traditional to name infants after deceased relatives. The people who we'd like to honor are my grandmother, Elva Ella, and my great aunt, Rosalyn. To open up our options a little more, we're being flexible on this and are also including Elva's mother, Beatrice, in the list. To me, naming a daughter after Beatrice would have just as much meaning as naming one after Elva. We're open to other names, too, though. We like vintagey names like the ones I mentioned above, and also Pearl, Olive, Rose, Vivienne, etc. I like Eva, but DH does not.
When I was younger, I always wanted to name my daughter Ella. But then, that name shot to the top of the charts. That alone isn't enough to dissuade me, but it also happens to be close to DH's sister's name (Ellen) and, when combined with our last name, sort of sounds like a city in Texas.
My other current favorite is Beatrice, but I'm worried about that not going so well with Abe. We'd have Abe and Bea - kind of sounds like A and B, right? Is that lame? Should we go with Beatrice and just not use the nickname Bea? Or should we abandon Ella and Beatrice both and go with something completely different?
Thanks for your help! Now that I've gone through the pains of registering, I might start coming out the woodwork more often ...
