So my husband comes from a long line of men with the same name, he's a III. We didn't want our son to be a IV so we instead gave our son the same first name (Harry) but changed the middle name to something different that we both liked. First of all, almost EVERYONE when they hear that our son is named after his father calls him "Jr" when he's not a Junior because they have different middle names.
Also, I find it difficult to tell stories at my work or other places when I'm talking about my family, so I have to use these modifiers like "little Harry" or "the baby". Even with my husband we hardly ever call our son by his name (we do to him so he knows his name), but with my husband I don't say "hand me Harry's towel", I'll say "hand me his towel" and I hate that we're not using his name to avoid confusion.
I guess my question is... for those of you that have your son named after his father (or even a daughter named after you) did you use a nickname when speaking of him/her and his/her real name when talking to the child or use the nickname for everything or did you start using a nickname for the parent??
