Using a blow up mattress for bed long term

Do you all see anything wrong with using an air mattress for my sons bed for a year or so?  We are not ready to buy a twin mattress and frame yet, but he is ready to transition out of the crib.  I have been using the Aerobed for a week now and he sleeps fine on it.  Do you think, because it is not quite as firm as a regular mattress, that it would be bad for his back in any way if I used it long term?

We have twin mattresses on the floor, no frames. DS isn`t ready for a big bed, but he needed to be out of the crib.

In the interim, I would suggest using the crib mattress but just on the floor.

If he's big enough for a "big kid bed" he's big enough for a regular mattress that is comfy.  Also, you don't need to spend a ton on a comfortable mattress and frame.  I wouldn't be concerned about it being bad for his back as I would the issue that they aren't made for long term use so it's anyone's guess how long it'll be until it springs a leak...

    This.

We got our twin mattresses from Sam's for $100.

Either put the crib mattress on the floor or put a twin mattress...you don't have to buy a "bed" right away.

Air mattresses are not recommended for children under 3. Like PP said you could just put the crib mattress on the floor.

We just bought DS a bed at Big Lots... if you have one of those in your area. Ours carry 2 twin size, one is 100, the other 170. and they have a price hold program (much like a layaway). Pay what you want, but pay it off w/in 6 months.

You'd spend more constantly replacing the popped mattress than you would on a twin mattress. I had to use an air mattress for 4 months while I was on tour with a drum corps and I went through three of them before giving up and just sleeping on the gym floor instead. (FWIW, I tried all kinds of tricks to keep it from popping!)
