January 2013 Moms

How long has it been?

How long has it been since you and your SO have done the deed? Mine's been at least 2-3 months and I feel horrible about it. I have zero interest. My H is totally content as we are now and weirded out by the whole thing (mainly the possibility of feeling her during the middle of it) and therefore not pursuing anything. I just feel like we should be doing it more often.

Our relationship is the strongest it's ever been and he has been totally amazing during this whole pregnancy but I am just starting to feel bad about the whole thing, plus I just miss how sex used to be. Anyone else is the same boat?

  • Five months. DH has no interest. I think the baby weirds him out.

  • We did this weekend, and most weekends.  Unfortunately, since DH works a 2nd shift job and we have a toddler, weekends are our only opportunity to DTD.

I figure, even if I'm not entirely into it, I'll still put forth an effort now since I know DH won't be getting any for 6 weeks postpartum, ha ha.

  • Its been about a month, mostly becasue I have a heart condition. It's gotten worse since I've gotten bigger, and I dont think adding sex on top of it would be a good idea. Plus LO is moving more than ever, so it would be too weird if he just started rolling around during the deed haha.

  • Way too long....we are thinking of starting up around 37 weeks though. If by chance it will move things along. I can't imagine it's comfortable though!

  • Twice over the weekend... before that, it'd been a long time.

I did read a study today showing people who dtd "a lot" from week 35 on gave birth at 39 weeks on average. So I told dh he will get much more lucky in about a month

This exactly. I make sure we DTD at least 1-2 times a week, but honestly I'm only into it maybe half of those times.

Also there's only one specific position that really gets me off these days-- me on top leaning forward to support my weight on my arms-- and it is starting to freak DH out because my belly is pushing into his more & more... he claims it is not hurting him but that he is afraid we are "squishing the baby," which I think is silly since it doesn't hurt me at all. I feel like as long as I am comfortable, the baby is comfortable, but DH isn't buying it lately. :- So I might be into it even less if he bans this position!

This.  We've both been too terrified of inducing PTL and every multiples class we have attended since October mentioned how semen can soften your cervix.  Just not worth it to us - DH has been such a wonderful man about the change to our normal level, he keeps talking about how he'll be sure to 'help' get the babies out once I reach 36 - 37 weeks, haha!

  • We've been managing 1-2 times per week, though there were a good 3ish weeks during second tri where I couldn't even think about it, and dh kind of got the hint. I've been feeling more comfortable with it lately though, which is ironic considering that physically I'm a wreck right now and feel gross!

  • Well....we are typically once a weekers...but the last two times well....it just has not "worked" the entire time for DH.  I think we are in for a dry spell.

I'm so glad that I'm not alone. I feel so depressed sometimes because I don't want my sexuality to be defined by the baby.

  • We did it a few weeks ago and before that it had been awhile because he was admittedly freaked out...but honestly, it wasn't enjoyable for either or us I think...I couldn't find a comfortable position and I could tell he was just really focused on the baby...we couldn't get into it.  But like you said, I feel closer to my DH more now than ever so I've kind of let sex go.  He says he's ok with it and I believe him.  It's kind of the last thing on our mind right now.  But I must say...I can't wait until we can have normal sex again!

  • We had sex last night, but before that it had been a while, I think at least a month. I've just felt so huge and awkward that it's hard for me to get in the mood. I've been feeling really bad, DH tries to make a move a few times a week and I feel terrible shooting him down so much.

  • I think if your relationship is fine and you both agree it's not something your in the mood for than by all means avoid the deed. Since I've been pregnant we have bumped it up from once or twice a week to pretty much once a day, except for maybe my fourth month. I have never really felt her move around at all during "adult time", but it does get a little tricky the last few weeks, as flexibility and positions seem to wean. But however you and your husband are comfortable, all the good for you!

  • A couple days, we do it at least 2 times a week. I has a yeast infection for a few weeks so we hadn't for while, but we sure wanted to. This is my second pregnancy so the belly is not a turn off to him this time. We r actually very attracted to each other still. My 1st and 2nd trimester I didn't want it at all, but since 3rd its been pretty regular.

  • I think I have you all beat!! We haven't DTD since I was 6 weeks pregnant!!! I started getting sick right about then, sick like morning noon and night throwing up! I lost 15 lbs it was terrible....and it lasted until 19 weeks. For whatever reason (I cant remember now, maybe DH was out of town or something) we didn't do it my 19th week..and I was hospitalized at 20 weeks with PTL and was put on pelvic rest. I am now 34 weeks, and have an appt on Monday the 3rd and I think she said all of my restrictions will be lifted at 35 weeks.. the modified bed rest and the pelvic rest.  Im nervous!! I told DH we could give it a try..but after this long and being as uncomfortable as I am, I cant picture it going well! We will see!

This. I'd say we average once a week or so. Absolutely agree on putting forth the effort now because it was several months before I was able to comfortably have sex after delivery.

  • Let's see... it's 2am EST so 3 hours.  :-D

Before that, though, about a month.  I really don't have interest anymore, but I had a pamering day.  My friend took me out for a facial.  Feeling pretty got me in the mood (something I plan on remembering for the rest of this pregnancy).

  • 12 hrs. Big Smile

But that was after 3-4 weeks of nothing. DH was away and we've all been really sick.

  • Its been 4 months probably. And its all me :( I feel horrible about it, I just have no interest. But, I would totally agree that the preparation for this little boy has made our relationship stronger then ever. I hope we can get back to the deed after life settles down.
  • A couple of months. I don't feel bad at all. I can barely sit let alone get up on it.
    See ya in March, dude.

  • We don't usually go more than 23 days without sex. It must be better now because SO is way quicker than before.

  • It's been a few weeks. I get freaked out when LO kicks or moves during. And I'm just so darn uncomfortable.

So I take care of him more regularly instead.  He's cool with that ;) LOL

  • I feel exactly the same although its been about 5 weeks for us. Last time was just not ideal and it was more work than it should have been. Now he says he's afraid he's going to hurt the baby. It also completely creeps him out that he may feel the baby move during sex.

I have total guilt about it...sigh. I think I need to bite the bullet and just jump on top of him regardless of how I feel. He's been an absolute dream through this pregnancy.
