Took my 4 year old cat to an emergency clinic for a UTI. They prescribed her an antibiotic and a pain medication, Meta.cam. She stopped eating so I took her to my regular vet and found out she was in acute kidney failure as a direct result of the pain medication. There is even an FDA warning on the box saying it's known to cause kidney failure and death in cats. It is not yet banned for use in cats but most vets don't use it anymore. I was not given the box or any medication handouts with her prescription and was not warned of any possible side effects.
My cat is home now but still not doing great and it is very possible that she could have permanent kidney damage if she pulls through. The vet that prescribed the medication isn't denying that it's their fault and has offered to pay her $700 hospitalization bill but only if I sign a release saying they did nothing wrong and I will not hold them responsible in any way, take legal action, or tell anyone what happened.
I could really use the money back but it freaks me out to sign it without knowing what will happen with my cat. What would TTGP do? Also for those of you that have cats please be very careful and research the possible side effects if a vet ever prescribes Meta.cam or Meloxi.cam.
