Let us guide you along week-by-week!)
I wrote a long whiny vent about how little time DH will be allowed to take off of work, but realized a clicky-poll is a lot more fun.
DH will be there in the hospital. After that it depends on what is needing to be done for harvesting his crops. If they are ahead of schedule (which they are right now) there is a chance that he could stay home a couple of days if I tied him down- but chances are he will be back at work with his dad.
His dad said he can take time off (they work on the family farm together) but chances are he won't! It's his busiest time- I get it. I'll be ok.
I clicked 2 weeks for this time, but this is the longest he's ever had off after one of our babies. We're moving and he's changing jobs, so it worked out perfectly for him to take a few weeks to spend with us.
With DS and DD, he went back to work a day or two after we got home from the hospital. Even with having a c/s, it was totally doable. My mom did come and stay, but that was more for companionship than actually needing help, particularly with #1. You'll do fine!
It will depend on what day I have the baby for us. If I have him on a Thursday/Friday, SO's boss okay'd him to take the entire next week off. If I have the baby on a Monday/Tues/Wed he will return the following Monday.
SO's job doesn't allow any PTO or vacation so it's pretty much sucking up to the boss to get any time off. He's also gone all week working OOT so his boss is being a little more lenient about time off because of that also.
Two ish weeks - whatever makes sense based on my delivery date. He's not going to to back on a Friday or something to make it an even 2 weeks.
He took two weeks last time, I had a c-section and needed him home the entire time. We are keeping DD#1 in daycare while I am on leave so we don't change her routine drastically. I think I would need him longer than two weeks if I had a toddler and baby home with me, I don't know how you SAHMs do it!
Last time, he took a few days off when I first went back to work to help ease the daycare transition, which was really nice. I don't think it's necessary this time because I am comfortable with my daycare provider and won't freak out that the baby is with her.
DH will be taking off the days I'm in labor and probably just one day after delivery. He works retail, so he's kind of limited to what he can take off.
Last time I was induced while he was at work, and he happened to have the next 2 days off, so it worked great.
My Hubby can possibly have 4 wks. Using the time he has earned since he started working at his job 2 yrs ago FMLA will give him 65 hrs paid. They he has 40 hrs vacation time he can use. Then he has 120 sick hrs to use, but will only use 55 hrs. He doesn't want to use all of the sick time. He can actually take upto 8 weeks, but it wouldn't all be paid.
But he works for a professional sports team and has to be back to work by the middle of October. So depending on when LO comes he may have less paternity leave.
jlk6:My DH will probably only take 3 days off. So I hope to deliver towards the end of the week so we get a few extra days built in with the weekend.
as of right now, DH is taking two weeks off. he has 28 hours of vacation time and 10 hours of personal time saved up, and he has up to a year of FMLA (unpaid).
so the first week will be paid, and he is taking that off for sure. the rest, however, will be dependent on what our needs are at the time.
We're both students - he's taking the fall semester off entirely to be at home with us. I'm essentially off for the fall semester as I'm only enrolled in dissertation hours (and work from home regardless of being pregnant). Depending on how things go will determine if he goes back to school for the spring - even then, it's not a full-time job type of commitment. Even if he found a job, he wouldn't make enough to offset the cost of daycare, so he's going to be considered a SAHD for a while... even after I defend and take a job starting fall 2013.
To be honest, I'm so glad we're having LO when we are - we get to be home with her for essentially the first year of her life.
DH is taking 1 1/2 wks...I think. He hasn't actually told them yet. Since LO is coming on a Thursday he figured he'd just stay home through the whole week & go back on a Monday.
He took off 3 weeks when DD was born. This time around he'll only be able to take off for 3-4 days. It sucks but it is what it is. We'll manage.
