Any other '50 Shades of Grey' haters see this?

(DISCLAIMER: Sorry if you love the book, not judging, it's just not something I'm interested in. Give me Jacqueline Carey and the Kushiel's Series any day for kinky, intriguing sex mixed with awesome plot and romantic characters!) 

Has anyone else seen this? Apparently it was on GMA the other day and my fiance's GRANDMOTHER wanted to know if I'd read the book and that's why I'm due in February along with a lot of these other Grey baby boomers!

I'm not judging, but definitely don't understand the hype about this book and so not excited that I get to be lumped in with this now! Oh well, gotta laugh, right?

I think it was my hormones getting the best of me but in a gas station they had a similar news story on and I got so offended to be lumped in with it, my SO was the recipient of a 30 minute rant over how I did not read that book.  I did not get pregnant because of it blah blah blah. 

I completely understand!  I have nothing against the book and nothing against that type of book.  It's just not my cup of tea.  Although I will say I would much rather be a gray baby boom mom than the next couple of months that are Magic Mike baby boom moms!!!!

I read the series (well actually I haven't finished the last one yet). I am having a hard time keeping myself interested in it. Not that great of a series. Though I must say, the series probably did contribute to this pregnancy (though we were trying anyways). I'm not a hater or anything, but when I think about the series, all I think is "Meh."

I had never even heard of this book until comparisons started being made here on TB, & have ZERO interest in reading it or any other "smut" novels, lol! I think the whole expectation/comparison is kind of pathetic. Do they predict a baby boom every time a new porno film comes out, too? Ridiculous!

I read the first one - thought it was meh.  Picked up the second one because I have this weird thing where I can't NOT finish a series.

Well, apparently I'm perfectly capable of bailing on a series.  I got maybe 1/3 of the way through the 2nd book and was so bored I ditched it.  I honestly don't get the appeal.

Exact same situation here. Although I will admit we did have some good sex as a result during 1st tri.

I'm really annoyed that I'm clumped in with people who admit they got knocked up because of a poorly written book.

I just think it's amusing that run-of-the-mill fan fiction has made people 'discover' erotica - the real shame is that they think that's what it's usually like!

It's as if people never noticed it's either out there for free, or in the public domain - there's a ton of Victorian stuff that I'm tempted to lift, copy and paste with some changed names, and submit to a publisher.

Of course, there are lots of perfectly good authors in this genre who do deserve a paycheck - I used to buy the 'Best Women's Erotic Short Stories 199x' every year. 

Maybe I need to find all the bad slash fiction I wrote in high school and make it less science fiction-y...

 Oh God, the cutesy nickname makes it even worse! Yeah I'm hoping this story just goes away quietly... Doubt it but I can dream.

I haven't read the book, not against it just haven't, but it would irk me a bit to be lumped into this category. It took me 7 months to get KU and it had nothing to do with picking up a novel.

This really frustrates me too!! This baby is not a product of 50 Shades of Grey!! Hopefully all of the hype will be over soon and we can just proceed with our pregnancies.

My thoughts exactly.  I did read the series and it was terrible.  I'm not really sure why I finished it.  I guess because I bought them all.  I read this about 2 months before conceiving, though... so definitely not a '50 Shades' baby and hate to think my baby might be associated with it. 

To the poster who thought Christian and Anastasia would be top names in 2013.  I think you are spot on!

I haven't read the book and never will.  But did someone just say Christian is the name of one of the characters.    That was on the top of my boy list.  Not anymore, I guess.

I'm fairly certain those who know me best will know I didn't get knocked up as a result of those books. I was reading Dawkins. I happened to have sex with my husband near the day I ovulated. Had nothing to do with any book. End of story.

I have read quite a bit of erotica. The good and the bad. My taste has always led to BDSM and I am friends with others who are in the scene. The fact Shades is the book that makes it go mainstream just makes me sad. There are a lot of really talented writers out there who have been building this genre for years and they are eclipsed by this series. The writing just plain bad. Then again, I have a degree in writing, so I'm pretty snobby with writing in general.

Ugh. This frustrates me too. But like a PP said, the people who know me will know that this isn't the reason we got pg and that the book is not my thing.
