Trouble TTC

TTC for almost a year

My husband and I have been trying to concieve for almost a year. Recently I had a doctors appointment to see why I'm not getting a normal period, he called for blood work and an ultrasound to see if everything is normal.  The blood test and ultra sounds came back normal and good.

My last period was Nov 20.  My doctor said to keep trying "naturally" until we have reached a year of trying.  They will not test my husband or me until it's been a year.

Has anyone had the same problem with tests being fine but still not normal periods?  What have you done?

I also have stopped drinking alcohol, started eating healthy.

Re: TTC for almost a year

  • You have not had a period in over 100 days and they didn't at least give provera to jump start your period?  That's not right!

  • Hi there!! I dont think I can offer too much advice, since my lack of AF is due to endocrine issues but if the irregularity is consistent they can probably just give you Provera to bring back your cycle. I used to always think I was blessed that "my little friend" only showed up once a year or longer...now that we're TTC though its a major PITA!!!!!! Good luck!    :)

  • No they didn't.  Basically my doctor is making me wait a full year of trying then he's going to refer me to the infertility clinic. I don't think it's right either.
  • You have not had a period in over 100 days and they didn't at least give provera to jump start your period?  That's not right!

Blood work right now is not going to help much since they don't know where you are in a cycle.  How much longer before it is a year?  I personally would ask them to give you a script for Provera so that you can at least start a new cycle.  Actually, I would seek a new OB for a second opinion since yours does not seem to be that with it.  One you get a period off of provera (which could take 10-14 days) then I would have blood work done the third day of your period so that they can look at the levels on the correct time to get a better handle on what's going on.

  • I'm thinking I need to do that. I was hoping they would put me on Provera but no the doctor never thought about that. I will be going back (to another doctor i hope) for my annual so I will be asking a lot of questions and bring up Provera also. Thanks!
  • Yup, listen to Kati, after 60 days with no period showing up, most doctors will give you Provera or PIO to start your cycle. If your ob/gyn is letting you go beyong 100 days and not even mention it, major moron alert! Get outta there and find a new Dr. ASAP!

That's just scary. How are you supposed to "try" when your cycle is screwed up and you have no idea where in your cycle you are? I hope AF comes on her own, but if not, please call a good ob/gyn soon. Good luck!

  • Get another doctor! We didn't try for a whole year before seeing an OB about it (then an RE) because I hadn't gotten my period for about 100 days. I'm so glad that we didn't wait the whole year, because it turns out that I have very polysystic ovaries.
DH and I are Americans living an adventure in Kenya since 2011
    DX: PCOS (annovulatory)
    Feb 2012: IUI #1 w/ only 1M sperm and a single follie = BFP!
Nov 2012: Little buddy born in Kenya
Nov 2013: Trying for a second, still w PCOS
Dec 2013: IUI cycle canceled for non-response
    Jan 2014: Break cycle BFP!

  • In all honesty, you could probably just see your GP for Provera if you don't want to deal with this obgyn and don't want to shop around for a new one right now...

Aug 2011-Feb 2012 tried to regulate cycles w/ Metformin -- no luck
    April 2012: Clomid (50mg) + Injects + TI = BFN
    May 2012: Clomid (100mg) + Injects + TI = BFP on 6/8/12

  • For reals! Ditto, PP.

I agree you should wait for official testing til it's been a year if that's what he wants, but your body should NOT go that long without a period. It's not good for it. After 60 days they should be giving you Provera to start your period. Call and ask for Provera and then find you a new dr, ASAP!

  • IMO get a new Dr.  You need someone a little more agressive.  However, it takes a lot of people about a year to concieve.  Are you doing the OPK's and taking your temp and checking your CM?  Did they even suggest Folical ultrasound or a progesterone test?  If you go to someone who does infertility they will be much more receptive to checking things out.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies. I'm gonna call tomorrow to schedule another appt and I will def be asking about Provera.

The blood test they order was to check my hormones. That came back normal

The ultrasound I had was normal and vaginal, which they were checking for any cysts and that came back normal.
