1st Trimester

It just doesn't feel real.....

So, my husband and I have been trying to conceive for 2 years!  I had pretty much given up on everything, and somehow we apparently managed to conceive!  I have four positive at home pregnancy tests and it just doesn't seem real yet!  After trying for so long, it just seems so unbelievable!  I know that positive home pregnancy tests are 99.9% accurate when they are positive, but I am so scared!  I found out Friday night, and I am going to try to get in to see my doctor tomorrow ASAP, any advice or when you began to feel that your pregnancy was real?  I guess I just need some reassurance!

Re: It just doesn't feel real.....

  • Congrats!  This is my second, and I think it will feel real pretty soon as I already have some serious bloat going on and I will be able to see the LO in about 2 1/2 weeks, but with my first it really didn't seem real until I could see my belly change a bit and feel him move.  It's just such an unreal experience as there is so much going on and no one can see or feel it!

  • I'm about 10wks and I still can't believe it.  I still look at the positive sticks under my bathroom sink at least once a week.  I also keep looking at my u/s (5wk, 6wk, 8wk) with trouble believing thats actually MY uterus.  We'd been TTC for 3yrs.  It seems so unbelievable that the husband who couldn't produce sperm and the wife who couldn't produce eggs have produced a fetus!
  • I am so excited for you! I can't even imagine waiting that long! I hope you have a really healthy pregnancy. The true key for me was hearing that really healthy heartbeat. It was surreal. I started pointing to different parts of the baby making sure it was the arms (though they look like little stubs) and all that. My poor OB was so kind a patient while I bombarded her with questions.

  • Congrats! 2 years is a long time to wait - I am so glad you got your BFP! I don't think it will feel real until I get morning sickness or something, lol.

  • Congrats! The wait will make everything just that much sweeter. I understand how you feel. I found out on Friday, and I plan to be at the doctor's at 9 am tomorrow. This has been the longest weekend of my life!

  • It doesn't feel real yet for me either.  We had only been trying for a few months, but this is my first too.  It's just such a new concept.  I think it will be real when I hear the heartbeat, but I have to wait 4 weeks for that.  I have been bloated, and a little nauseated, so that helps me some.

  • I am with my second child and the first was hard to become real until I saw my little boy on the ultra sound and see his heart beating oh and the massive kicking he did helped too!Big Smile

  • It still doesnt feel real for me, I asked the same question. Many have told me that it will feel real when you start to get a real bump (not bloat), and when you feel the baby kick and move around. Happy and healthy 9 months!

  • Congratulations on your BFP!! H&H 9 months to you!! I don't know when it starts to feel real. The only thing that I have that keeps me going is a blood test every other day for the first couple weeks with Hgc numbers growing and a ton of fatigue...I could sleep for three days probably. I'm thinking after you go to the doctor, it will be real....Enjoy!!!

  • Congrats! You should always be positive, my doctor told us that everything is fine until you hear otherwise. :)

This is our first, and even after 2 HPTs and two blood tests at the doctor it did not seem real. The reality starting to sink in for us at the 10 week u/s when we got to see the little one move around, but everyone is different. Good luck and congrats again!

  • I was all calm cool and collected, wondering how people were taking 4, 5, 6 & more tests when one was enough for me.... Until today!  I had this moment of doubt, I think it's because we are telling our parents on Tuesday.  (It's very early to tell but my husband is being deployed in a week and a half and we really want to tell them together).  I keep thinking, what if that test was wrong?  What if I'm not and we go and tell them (first appt isn't until Feb 8) what if what if what if.  It doesn't help that I'm not having very many symptoms (not that I'm complaining!).  So we just got  back from the store with two new tests, I can't believe I caved.  But like everyone else has said, it just doesn't feel real...

  • Congrats!! I am still in shock some days!  Try to be positive and enjoy your pregnancy!

  • Congrats!

Half the time i feel like " no way, I can't believe I'm pregnants again already". And the other half I'm like " Ohhhh yah, I'm pregnant!"

I find I forget a lot, and I start to get these big ideas like getting a gym pass and working off these last lbs from my first pregnancy.  Then I catch myself am I'm all like, well damn....

  • It still doesn't feel real to me and I am past 12 weeks. We had been trying to get pregnant since my last mc in 08. We were told in November we could not conceive without in vitro. The end of December found out we were 8 weeks pregnant without any help. I have no idea when this will feel real to me. Maybe when I can feel the kicking and find out what we are having.

  • Congrats!!! I'm still always wondering, "am I really?" even though I've gotten to see the proof of an ultrasound. I'm just anxious for my next appt this week, when I'll get to hear the heart beat. And it definitely makes it more real when you finally have a belly, which I don't have anything showing yet still of course. But I just try to stay relaxed and not stressed. I wish you the best, I'm so happy for you!

  • I feel you! This is my second marriage and my husband had a vasectomy prior. We went thru testing to see what our odds were without intervention and we were told 2%. So we have been 'trying' for only 6 months and we r 7 wks pregnant now. If it werent for the way I felt, it is still hard to believe. Just wanna see that heartbeat...2 more days :)

  • If you're an unlucky one with morning sickness, it'll feel real then :P. But what actually broke me down into tears is when I felt her kick for the first time. Congrats!
  • Personally, it wasn't real to me until we saw him on an ultrasound.  He was moving around and it was all I could do to not cry.  Even my husband seemed a little emotional, and God knows soldiers don't have feelings! :P

  • My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about a year and two months.  I didn't think it would happen.  Then one night I had an odd dream that made me wonder.  I took a EPT about a week before my missed period and it was a bright red positive.  I'm seven weeks now and it does and doesn't seem real.  I have my first exam in two weeks.  I'm hoping to hear the heartbeat.  I think as soon as I hear that, it'll totally sink in.  I've had some morning sickness and the sore boobs, but I think I just need the actual evidence that there's a little one in there.

  • I totally understand where you are coming from, my husband and I have also been trying for over 2 years and we found out on friday as well that we are expecting, I am really excited and nervous. Our first appointment is February 7th. These are going to be the longest weeks until our first appointment. I also think it is funny that I also took 4 tests. Congrats and best wishes for a healthy and happy pregnancy!
