Lovenox is expensive!

I am starting Lovenox injections and was shocked at how much it costs.  Checking to see if insurance will help, but not so sure it will.  Does anyone know the most affordable place to get Lovenox or the generic?

I know they just came out with a generic version. Can you call around?

The generic is much, much less expensive and was covered by my insurance.  I ended up paying a $10 or $20 co-pay for a 30 day supply.  The generic is called Enoxaparin (spelling may be wrong).  Definitely check with your insurance.

I'm with ya! The last time I got it filled, I had already met my insurance deductible for the year, so I payed $60 for three prescriptions (lovenox, crinone and hcg). Now, its a new year and I have to meet my deductible (which I will easily do seeing the RE), and I paid $1080 for lovenox and crinone!. I go through Apothecary by Design, a pharmacy in maine that apparently specializes in fertility meds. Its who my RE uses, and things cost the same for me wherever I go for my insurance so I went with it. (I am a pharmacist, but I don't work retail so I don't have to really deal with prescription costs any more!).

Thats the correct spelling : ) But i would assume OPs rx was for the generic already. I can't imagine why a doctor would insist on brand name.  Without insurance its > $500 or 600.

I get the generic from Walgreens and I still have to pay $150 in copay for a 30 day supply. :( I hate insurance companies.

Do you have a Costco or Sam's membership (or similar)?  Their pharmacies tend to have good pricing.

I use the generic and it's a $7 co-pay. My prescription insurance changed on 1/1 and I forgot to tell my pharmacy when I called in. Luckily they called back and asked me for the new one. When the pharmacist called me she said, "I am quite sure you didn't want to pay $1000 today." I was floored. I knew it was expensive, but didn't realize it was that much!!

One more thing, my doctor started me on Heparin at the beginning of the pregnancy because he wasn't sure my insurance covered the Lovenox. a lot of insurance companies will cover the Heparin even if they don't cover Lovenox. Kind of a hassle to self fill and inject twice a day, but in the end it's all worth it. Also you might want to try the mail order thing from your insurance company. They send you a 3 month supply for the cost of 2 months if it's covered.

I have the generic version and it's $10 for a month's supply... not bad! I go to a Target pharmacy, not sure if that makes a difference or not. I was floored it was so cheap, I was expecting it to be a lot, too.

This is with insurance, no? The OP stated she wasn't sure if her insurance would cover it.

OP... Im a pharmacist, and as a general rule Walmart usually has the cheapest prices. (I dont work for them, in fact, I previously worked for a competitor). If your insurance doesn't cover it, call around, making sure that Walmart is one of the places you call.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I wish we only had to pay the amounts that you have mentioned.  We thought we were healthy people and got an HSA with a high deductible before I found out about my anticoagulant disorder.  Looks like we will be paying the deductible before insurance kicks in.  On the brightside, by the time baby comes (fingers crossed) we will have met our out of pocket.
