Hi Ladies!
So, I pump twice a day while I'm at work and usually once (maybe twice) when I'm home in the evening between DS's feedings.
So I come back from lunch today and my left breast started to get really hard (1 1/2 hours before I was supposed to pump). So I held out and went to pump at my usual afternoon time and pumped for about 20 minutes and my left breast was still a little hard. I hardly got any milk out, maybe 1 oz or so. Now it's hard again and hurting on my side whenever I put pressure on it.
Has anyone else experienced this? This is a first for me. I have about a 1/2 hour left at work, so I'm going to pump again when I get home.
Re: hard breast even after pumping?
I have had this feeling when I have a clogged duct. I have found massaging the breast while pumping does help unclog the duct or applying heat or both can help. Also pumping every 2 hours when possible also helps. I know I have unclogged the duct when I can get more than 1 oz out of that side I usually can pump 3-4 oz per side per session. Good luck.
Thanks Ladies!!!
I pumped again and massaged when I got home and it was still hard after only getting an ounce.
I'm going to try to massage and apply a wet warm compress after I feed DS.
Yup - Clogged Duct. Try to get it to clear out with a hot compress before you pump or pump on all fours to let gravity help. If it won't clear, lecithin does wonders!
