Please tell me this is a short phase. My 20 month old is a complete wreck. If she drops something OR if we don't understand what she is asking for OR if we take something away OR for no reason at all....she completely freaks out. We can't calm her down - she throws herself on the floor and grinds her head into the ground. She screams and cries until she can't breath.
DH and I are at a complete loss. It's worse when she's tired or hungry, so we try to avoid that at all costs. But, this morning, after 12 hours of sleep and a hearty breakfast of pancake & yogurt, she had a 5 minute tantrum because she dropped Mommy's phone. Nothing happened, no one yelled. It just fell on the carpet - totally within her reach to pick it back up. But she couldn't seem to do that. If we ignore her, she keeps going and I hate to see her get so crazy. Distraction and/or cuddling do nothing. She wants to be held, but at the same time she's kicking to get away.
I really hope this only lasts a few weeks. I'm not sure I can take much more.
