It is advised that they dont wear sunscreen (of any type) until 6 months. I took my first son to an indoor pool at 3 months...and rinsed him off in the shower really good because of chlorine drying him out.
Edit- I want to note that my sunscreen source was our pediatrician. He also said no bug spray for a year...or even two.
lucylea:Its my understanding that they now are okay with sunblock at any age as its better than early sun exposure. We started using it on DD at 3 months because we were outside a few times without shade. I'll do my best to keep DS out of the sun at this point, but wouldn't hesitate to put sunblock on him if I wasn't able to keep him shaded. As far as going in the water, as long as it is warm and you rinse DC off afterward I think it would be okay, although as a PP said, they might not like it.
Looks like I will need to retalk to our pediatrician's office. Geez I love how much things change in less then 2 years! I remeber vitamin D not being required (or covered by our insurance company) with DS1!
I always refer to this post for sun block info. We use California Baby. I say as long as you have shade (a tent or umbrella) and only bring her in the sun for short periods of time she will be just fine! Enjoy the beach!
Elsie has already been to our town pool and she went into the kiddie splash pad that they have. Obviously she is not swimming so we were holding her the entire time. She really enjoyed it.
