Clomid and the REALLY long period

Ok, so I took Clomid for the first time last month and my Dr. and I both think that it worked based on the calendar and when I should have ovulated/started my period.

Anyway, I did not get pregnant this month. However, my period is longer and heavier than usual. It started 6 days ago and would usually be done by now. It was really heavy with painful cramps from days 1-3 and then I had a cortisone injection in my knee. My period stopped for 24 hours and then came back. Now it is at a medium flow and still cramping. Is this from the Clomid or the injection? Is it normal?

Re: Clomid and the REALLY long period

  • I don't understand that your Dr "thinks" that it worked. Please see the post below regarding monitoring and if you're not being monitored, please consider going to an RE is you aren't already.

  • I was not monitored at all, just told to take the over the counter tests which were very unclear to me. However, the day that I think was the closest to having a surge was 15 days before my period, so my Doctor thinks it worked.

  • I have always had heavy and painful periods. I have taken 5 rounds of Clomid and if anything my periods are lighter and less painful with Clomid.

To know if Clomid works the Dr. will do a mid-cycle check which includes a u/s where the Dr. will check the lining and how many and the size of your follies. The Dr. also had to do an u/s to make sure your ovaries don't become swollen or you develop any cysts do to Clomid.

  • I think I'm missing something...if you weren't monitored, which you should have been, what was the injection for if you did TI with OPK?

On your question, Clomid made my cycle shorter but heavier...I imagine it varies from person to person.

This is extremely unsafe and you should hightail it to an ethical RE who will monitor you correctly. Without  monitoring OHSS is highly a possibility and besides the fact that it could render you forever infertile, you can die!

Read the link Edwina posted and I hope you make the best decision for yourself.
