Baby Names You Can't Stand *Flame Free Zone*

Everyone has heard a baby name that made them say, "Are you kidding me???"  So lets hear them, and no b!tching if someone hates your baby's name, granny's name, etc.

I'll start...I my best friend named her little girl Crea (pronounced cr-ee-uh)...I don't understand how that can even be a name. It sounds like sea food seasoning!

Re: Baby Names You Can't Stand *Flame Free Zone*

  • I used to hear some bad ones while cashiering during college.  The worst that I can remember were Daytona and Felanie Marie (pronounced like Felony...).  During my teaching days I had a boy in my class called Jay'd, which I thought was pretty bad (nice kid, though).

Among names that I actually hear used a lot on baby boards...  I can't stand anything that rhymes with Aiden.  Jayden, Brayden, whatever - all of them get on my nerves.

  • One of my good friends just informed me they are naming their baby girl Rinoa Onyx Ann. I'm sorry....but WHAT?? Not to mention, her last name is already a bit funny sounding! lol?

  • I really hate Nevaeh.  It looks and sounds really gross to me, and the fact that it's "heaven" backwards is downright cheesy.

A lady I know just had a daughter and named her Rinoa!  I'd never heard it before, but supposedly it's a video game character...I really disliked it.

I can't understand why anyone would name their kid Felanie. And I don't like it when kids are named after places, Daytona, Orlando, etc.

  • One of my husband's high school friends just named her January baby, i kid you not "January Jane"

Her excuse was "well we're going to call her Jane", then why the hell would you make her first name January? Can you say grade school trauma waiting to happen?

  • There was a girl that went to school with DH. Her name was LA-A.  Pronounced "Lah-dash-a".

    no lie.

what my huge peeve is, is when parents obviously hate their children and massacre spellings with Ks instead of Cs, Ys instead of Es, etc.

    Yes this makes me giggle

    This.

I also don't like made up names or names with random Ys in the middle of them.

  • I hate any common name that someone tries to make "special" by giving it a unique spelling.  It doesn't matter if you spell Fred normal or Phred- when you call your kid to come inside for dinner it all sounds the same to the neighbors.  All you are doing is making life harder for your child and for their teachers.  Where I worked they are now requesting that parents spell each child's name phonetically on registration forms because we couldn't figure them out.  It's dumb.

  • Hoping to god that I don't have some crazy friends that would be lurking here.... :)

One of my friends that is pregnant (due any day now) is naming her son Bentley. Like the car. Yeah.

Another friend of mine had a little girl a little over a year ago and they named her Paisley. Like the pattern....or like Brad Paisley-I don't know. Either way.

  • I really don't like any of the trendy/cutesy names. I know it's not that uncommon of a flame, but they just all really bug me. Grace, Sophie, Ellie, Ella, Jackson, Bryson, Weston, Caleb etc...

I also hate all the 'K' girl names. Keelyn, Kaelyn, Kelee, Kaiya, Kenzie...etc....

(hope I didn't offend anyone, if I did, I'm sorry)

Edit because I remembered some bad ones: I have a student(a boy)- Keadyn, and another one -An'Toniyeon.

I also know a girl who names her daughter: Edna Story. Why 'Story'? because both mom and dad like to read!!!

  • Before I got pregnant I might have liked the name Paisley...but idk...now that I'm responsible for choosing the name a person will have to live with for the rest of their life (or at least until 18) I find overly cutesy names make me wanna barf sparkles and confetti.

A video game character?? Lol. That is insane!

Honestly, why in the world would you name your daughter after a video game character? I just can't understand some people! lol.

I knew a kid named December. Her birthday wasn't in December, I have no idea why they named her that.

I can't believe someone else has seen that name! Our office had a client with that name, and we all laughed about it for months.  We hear a lot of crazy names in our office but that one definitely won the prize. We still laugh about it.

I've discovered I like traditional, classical, "boring" names. All these new modern names with weird spellings just seem odd and confusing, and I feel bad for some of these kids when they hit school age.

Hehe-I wanted to barf when they talked about her on facebook all the time before she was born. Maybe if she had a different name it wouldn't have bothered me so much.

This is a kind of hypocritical thing for me to say because most places are named after actual historical figures names...

This. Made me crack up. Haha.

Before we knew we were having a boy, I was thinking of the name "Evelynn" for a girl. But I had always HATED the name! lol. I just thought it fit or something for some reason! haha. So I kind of understand!?

  • I have a friend who is naming her daughter Swell Franklynn.

When asked, she said "You know... like the perfet swell? Like surfing!"

    She doesn't surf.

I can't help but think of swelling/inflammation or "gee, isn't that swell?!"

Poor kid. I don't like names that aren't real names, just words turned into names.

  • A few people I know around here have named there sons Maxwell, I don't know why, but that name makes me cringe.

Also, I know someone who named their daughter Sage Osprey Mave, I mean Sage I can see, but where t H did they get the rest of that?

ETA: Mave is not the last name.

  • Anything *super* popular.

I always think the only reason anyone names their child a popular, trendy name is because they've heard it so much that they just jump on board.

  • I'm a teacher, so I have heard it all!  I have had a little girl named Charisma, one named Alaska (nope, wasn't conceived there, Mom said she just thought it was pretty), Kenya and this year I have a little boy named Elvis, BUT it gets better, his middle name is Thang.  I also have a little girl whose mom can't spell, her name is Kattie Ann, pronounced Katie.  One of our teacher is into Western stuff and named her little boy Trotter, Trotter Tayt, and their last name starts with T, ugh.  But my personal favorites are a little girl whose name is Magnificent, they call her Maggie, but her last name sounds suspiciously close to f**k.  Yeah, the kids won't tease her.  And the other is a little boy whose name is Quest Aurillian Stormtrooper Orion Diamond LastName.  No lie, I have seen this child's birth certificate myself!

No, I don't think so. She asked how it sounded and said it was unique. Her name is very similar to what she wants to name her baby. Her sons name is Coreyon after the baby's father Corey. Indifferent

I hadn't ever met anyone named Madison, so when I saw it in the baby name book I really liked how "new" and "fresh" it sounded...that was before I found out its on the most popular name list of the recent years... =[

DH is a pharmacist in a more urban area and has many patients with names like this, and they get mad when you don't pronounce the dash!!  Ridiculous!

I just hate when people go to extremes to change spellings that would change the pronunciation, but they expect it pronounced differently...ex:  I have a student named Jashua, which they pronounce as Joshua.

  • There are just certain names I would never name my children, not because they're absolutely outrageous or anything.  Maybe it's previous connotations. . .

I'd never name a boy Wyatt or Hunter.  And I don't understand when people call their children by their MN.  I'm so glad our LO is girl because DH's family was being ridiculous saying we had to name a boy DH's-name MN and then call him by his middle name.  No, he would have been Landon DH's-name.  It was an actual point of contention.

Girls names I don't like - Leah, Sophia, Madison or Lily.  I really like Lila though, it was in our top three, it's just Lily.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of these names.  They're just names I would never name my children.  Really, I don't understand why anyone gets irked by the baby name choice of someone else.  It doesn't have anything to do with you, whatsoever.  I know most people would hate the MN we've decided on for our daughter, but I just don't care.

Oh my god! LOL...Stormtrooper?? Why do people do that to their kids. If you give your child a name like that, the department of child services should take your child away from you. It's like those people that named their kid "Talula does the Hula"
