Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Infantalis Hydrops/Congestive Heart Failure at 29 weeks

I delivered our Angel, Mackenzie Anne 6 weeks and one day ago at 29 weeks.  We had found out just  day's before that her heart was not working and she would not survive. We chose to let naure take it's course and 4 day's later, the day after Thanksgiving I delivered Mackenzie in a natural childbirth assisted by Pitocin to help induce contractions. We buried our angel on December 4th.  I am doing my best to come to terms with our loss and was wondering if there is anyone on this board who has a similar loss.  I struggle with explaining what happened to people and am curios what other people do/say.  Any help and support is appreciated. Also, I cannot figure out how to stop the ticker etc...the fact that I have no patience may not be helping that though...

  • I'm so so sorry for your loss. I don't have a similar experience but wanted to let you know that this board is full of girls who can support you during this difficult time.

In terms of the ticker, click on 'my account' and change your settings. It might take a few hours for the bump to fix it.

  • Hi Kristen,

First let me say I am so sorry about your daughter, and while I am sad that you are here, you will find a lot of support and women willing to listen and offer advice.

We learned on Nov 17 that our little boy died at 20w1d (Nov 14), 3 weeks earlier at our anatomy scan he was alive and well with a strong heartbeat.  Our world came crashing down...you can read it all in my blog if you would like--the link is on the bottom of the page, but you might need to copy and paste it.  Anyway, we learned the following day that he died of fetal hydropsy, and it wasn't until dec 23rd that it was determined that he had some structural abnormality...not chromosome related, rH factor related, or a virus.  The dr had the hunch from the beginning that it was congestive heart failure, but we will never know for sure.  We buried our son on Dec 18th.  I am very open and honest about what happened.  I stayed home from work for 2 1/2 weeks (i had an d &e on nov 24th), and went back only b/c i felt safe and secure and supported by my co-workers and my students (i teach high school science).  I explain that the baby got sick and died, he was absorbing the aminotic fluid too much, and talk about the u/s where the perinatologist showed us where it was evident on the anatomy scan that he had hydropsy all along (his skin was too far away from his ribs).  For people who really want to know, I explain all of this.  For those who just asked what happened, I say the baby got sick and died and end the explanation there.  not everyone wants to know the details. however, last night i did share my blog on facebook (b/c i am cancelling my account and combing an account with my DH-we can't stand FB anymore), and the replies i got back where amazing, b/c people wanted to know what happened but didn't want to ask.

As far as the ticker goes, i went into my profile, edit avatar, and deleted everything, then the restarted.  it does take a while for the main page ticker to disappear, but the baby ticker on your page should be gone in a matter of hours.

anyway--i am so sorry for you and your family right now.  and if i can help in anyway, or just listen to your story of your Angel, please pm me.

  • I am so sorry for your loss, I can relate.  We lost our daughter around Dec. 29, I was induced and delivered just after midnight on Dec. 31.  The cause is unknown as of yet.

We informed many of our close friends / family via phone or email shortly after our loss was diagnosed.  I am glad we did this, as we have received so much love and support.  I have been sharing our story with our larger group of friends, work colleagues, etc. slowly, and generally in email - I have found this is probably therapeutic.  I did not get into a lot of detail, but just reported our sad news very simply.  When I have bumped into neighbors, etc. I have simply said, "our baby died," as an explanation.

As far as changing your settings - it was a relief when I finally figured this out.  Go to "the Nest" tab and click on "our family," then remove your due date.  Your account will reflect that you are not pregnant.

If you would like to chat privately, please send me a PM.

  • i'm so sorry for your loss.  i did not have a similar loss, i lost my daughter from unknown causes at 39 weeks, but figuring out what to tell people takes a while.  when asked if i have children, i still struggle with what exactly to say.  i always say yes, but never know whether to explain or just wait for the next question.  ::hugs::
  • I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.
  • I am so sorry for the loss of your little Angel Mackenzie....

My husband and I lost our daughter, Stella Grace, on Dec. 20th 2010. I delivered her at 26 weeks and one day. I wasn't feeling her move for a day or two and went in to the doc to find that her heart wasn't beating. I delivered Stella through natural child birth as well. We buried our little girl on the 23rd, right before christmas.

I understand how hard it is to explain what happened to other people. I feel unsure of what people with think or how uncomfortable and awkward the convo will be. I just started back to work monday 1-4-11 and I just explained our daughter was born on the 20th and she passed away. Many people dont realize that our daughter was a full grown baby and tend to write it off as a normal miscarriage. That hurts, and makes me feel alone.

I do have hope, and you should too. You have support from many many women and you will never be alone in this. Just know your story has helped me too and im sure it helps anyone who reads it who has gone through a loss.

     God Bless, Jaeda

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you are going through. at 20 weeks they found fluid around our daughters lungs.  At 27 weeks Jamie was diagnoised with hydrops, they placed a shut that didn't work because there was too much fluid. We did everything possible but at 28 weeks they told us there was nothing else they could do but wait. On 12-11-10 I went into labor I was 31 weeks her heart stopped the day before.

I wish I could help you with how to tell people but I'm still trying to figure that out too. If you need to talk feel free to message me.

  • Dealing with a loss now. and my high risk ob said that it is my business to share or not share and that we only give permission for people to ask questions when we start answering them.

Basically i am being a vague as possible with everyone. i dont have the energy to answer questions and certainly dont feel that they are entitled to any answers. people are going to talk and speculate and put their worthless two cents in and that is a given...frankly i just turn off my ears, walk away, and do not acknowledge that they even spoke...harsh yes...what works for me though.

    Hope that helps.
